Considering the hotel is in the middle of nowhere, we were pleased that drinks were priced the same as in big cities. The atmosphere is great and there are lots of photographs and memorabilia around the bar, especially relating to Mad Max. There are also a couple of Mad Max vehicles outside the hotel, we grabbed a few photos of ourselves next to the cars.

The only slight negative was the over the counter meals, not the best but still edible.

Finally I've found a hairdresser who will cut my hair the way I want it. I prefer my fringe longer and every other hairdresser I have been to in the past has cut my fringe way too short but at Robyn's my hair was cut perfectly. Plus if you don't want your hair washed and blow dried you don't have to.

Approximate cost: $20 for cut

What can I say about this caravan park other than awful. We arrived after a long day of driving, the staff were reasonably helpful and said we could set up our camper trailer in any empty site but not on the grassed areas. We drove around the park looking for a suitable site. All sites were gravel, not at all appropriate for a camper trailer. We were extremely tired and since it was the last day of our trip we decided to lash out and hire an ensuite cabin for the night. The cabin was old, just barely clean enough (the bed was relatively comfortable). The outside ensuite was also old but cleaner than the cabin. Overall we didn't enjoy our stay and won't be back.

A great small tobacconist who also sell gift ware and novelties. The staff are very friendly and get to know their regulars. When we walk in to the store we only have to say one of each and the staff know exactly what we want.

Very roomy sites which have both grass and cement. This made it very easy for us to put up our camper trailer. There's a small opal fossicking area in the park which was lots of fun (and free), we enjoyed finding our own opals. The camp kitchen offers dinners to all staying at the park each night at a small additional fee. We we extremely lucky to stay when roast dinners cooked in camp ovens were offered. All I can say is yum and the dessert was wonderful too.

The amenities are new and the best I have seen, the inner shower doors ensure your belongings don't get wet. The smell of sulphur (bore water) takes a bit of getting used to but plenty of drinking water is available around the park.

We can't wait to go back.

A small council run caravan park which we found enchanting. Great (although older style) amenities block and laundry facilities. The council ranger comes to the park daily to collect fees so there's no need to find them. All sites are powered and the ground is a little sandy but very flat and stable. Very cheap (we paid $15 for 1 night) and all facilities and power is included in the site fee. A lovely little spot.

Note: The park can get a little busy by late afternoon so try to get in as early as you can. We didn't book ahead and had plenty of sites to choose from when we arrived.

Approximate cost: $10 - $30

This review is for The Grand Hotel Wyong, Wyong NSW

My partner and I received a dinner invitation to the grand hotel from friends last week. We were glad to catch up with friends but less than eager to go to the venue due to the bad reputation (violence). We were pleasantly surprised. The entire hotel has been renovated and all the "riff raff" shown the door. The meals were brilliant (the 2nd best steak I've even eaten) and well priced and the live entertainment was amazing. We will definitely go there again.

Approximate cost: $20 - $35

This review is for Cameron Corner Store, Broken Hill NSW

Small campsites, luckily only 2 other groups were staying at Cameron Corner. The amenities block is shared between male and females, I felt uneasy going there on my own so insisted my partner accompany me. The generator for the store itself was located only 20m from our campsite and kicked in around midnight (running until morning). Would be better if campsites were well away from the store and generator.

Approximate cost: $25

The best bush camping spot we've found. The amenities block is small (4 toilets, no showers) but it is cleaned at least twice a day and doesn't smell. Fresh water is available but no power. Most sites are grassed, some can get rather soggy if there is constant rain. We love that fires are allowed (depending on fire restrictions of course) and it's not a problem for us to set up our camp shower. There are many camp sites and you don't need to see reception. The care takers will come to you to gather the fees for your stay. We love this bush camp.

This review is for Brooms Head Caravan Park, Brooms Head NSW

We arrived at Brooms Head Caravan Park on a very windy day and were unable to locate a sheltered site to set up our camper trailer. If you love the beach and water activities Brooms Head Caravan Park would be a great place for you to stay as many sites are right on the waters edge. The amenities were clean but it did take a long time for the hot water to come through the showers. We were intending on staying 5-6 nights but due to the windy and cold weather we stayed for only 3. A little expensive since the beach front sites are not powered.

Approximate cost: $22 and up
