Great little spot for lunch that you can easily walk by and not know it is there. The pies are really good. worth trying the split pie special
Tasty, piping hot and crispy shepherds pie, served with salad and vinaigrette. Nice, bistro feel. Good little lunch place.
Tucked away in a non descript victorian building, cafe alcaston is quiet and refined. I was very surprised to find that most tables had been already booked for lunch (this was a normal weekday in an ordinary part of the year). I was soon to find out why...
The interior atmosphere is restaurant quality. The tables are spaced fairly well apart, and the noise levels are minimal. The menu is geared towards 'simple cafe lunch'. Ie. salads, sandwhiches, rolls, pies etc. Whilst simple, these were really good. Ie. Beef & Red Wine Pie. The meat slow cooked to shredding point, red wine and onion rich and seasoned to perfection. The pastry was golden, flakey and rich with butter. Served with a generous bowl of dressed garden salad, and a large dollup of sweet yet spicy chutney.
I really like Alcaston. They offer the everything that I want and like about lunch time weekday dining - quick service, simple food, reasonable price, quiet & comfortable yet refined surrounds (they even have napery!!). Highly recommend.
A very cosy and classy cafe, which looks like more like a lounge where you can have a quiet and cosy drink after work, as it has a bar. Coffee was good.
