Step back in time to "old school" fish and chips. This is a nostalgia trip for anyone who grew up in the 70's - orange laminex, big floor tiles and friendly old fashioned service.

They were still open at 8.45 on a Friday night which was a bonus for us because as well as our normal order, we got a bag of steamed dim sims, extra potato cakes and a hamburger in batter thrown in free. These are the type of people who would give you that "extra" potato cake anyway.

Chips were crunchy and plentiful, the pieces of flake were big and cooked in a sort of "fluffy" batter, crunchy on the outside - really nice. My husband had his grilled and it was cooked to perfection. Flake - $5.80 and a whole range of other fish available as well as burgers, steak sandwiches etc.

A little hard to find, you have to go off Civic Parade and weave around some little streets to find this tiny strip of shops, but it was so worth it. A family business doing what they do well for the local area.

Approximate cost: $10 - 12

Among best fish and chips in the west. Very traditional and nostalgic feel in the shop, delicious old school fish and chips and tasty juicy schnitzel burgers of generous size conjoures up childhood memories of times past. I have read somewhere in the shop that he has been trading there since the early 80s. Highly recommended.

Never knew about this place tucked in behind
Cherry Lake. Sounds good, can't wait to try it when I get back.
