In need of a very quick late lunch, I arrived at Borrack Square and there's not much I haven't eaten here, so decided to try the Kebab House. I wasn't disappointed. Although I didn't opt for a kebab, having to eat while driving (and this can be a bit messy) the meat and salads plus the array of sauces waiting to be put on them looked fresh and delicious.

I went with a pide (a Turkish flat bread pizza rolled up at each end). It was about a foot long (weep Subway) and just soooo good. There were about 6 varieties - chicken and cheese - beef, onion and capsicum etc. I chose the chicken, mushroom, onion and eggplant (I think). Anyway, it was chock full of tender meat, flavoursome veggies and quite easy to hold being a boat shape. Although a few pieces did escape when I had reached the wider middle section and had to turn the steering wheel quite sharply.

I have to go back to try the other varieties, not to mention the kebabs. And the amazing thing was, it was only $6.00.

Kebab menu - lamb, chicken, mixed, hawaiian, etc all filled with salad and sauce served in Turkish bread. Small $6.50, large $8.50. Also shish kebabs offered which are on skewers and chargrilled. Salads available and coffee as well as hot drinks.

There are a couple of special offers on at the moment - kebab and drink after 5.00 pm is only $7.00. Combo with kebab, drink and chips is $12.

Family packs available and containers with the meat alone as well. Delivery is free with order over $30.

Lady who served me was pleasant and cheerful, telling me what ingredients were included. Very limited "eat in" capability - 2 tables and chairs on footpath.

And it goes without saying that it's Halal.

Opening hours - Monday to Wednesday - 8.00 am - 7.00 pm. Thursday and Friday to 8.30 pm and Saturday - 8.30 - 6.00 pm.

In this little shopping enclave, you're spoiled for choice and Altona Kebab House is one of the best.

Approximate cost: $8.00
