great gourmet pizzas and okay tapas
it's a bit of a hidden gem tucked away on grattan street, i recommend eating indoors rather than outdoors - the decor's brunswick street - esque and you forget you're right next to university
bit pricey for sandwiches for the 10 dollar pizzas are pretty good value
The baked eggs and paninis here are delicious! Little pricey. Service takes a while, but fair enough as they're usually pretty busy and have tables inside and out of the little cafe.
I like the sound of this.
i agree i find that the place is usually busy whenever i pass by at any time of the day
If you're looking for a quirky cafe near Melbourne University that serves decent coffee, this is it. Every time I've been, the coffee is always decent. The lunch crowd packs the tiny joint out so if you're looking for a table indoors, go early. From memory they serve a few soups but you need to try their paninis - they do all kinds of fillings but the breakfast one (bacon, eggs and can't remember what else) is excellent and flies in the face of everything your doctor tells you.
Whatever you do, don't try their crepes because it's pre-made and they just heat it up. The scones are ok but star is their walnut flourless cake - if they have any left by the time you get there, that is.
The decor is funky and bohemian and the staff is quite friendly. The place is very intimate and could be very easy to miss if there are no university kids hanging around (ie, during non-semester periods)
Approximate cost: $15
thanks for the heads up regarding the crepes! that doesnt sound too appealing...
“I went there with my Mum this afternoon and I got myself a Tiramisu for $5 so I”…
