A small family run restaurant producing fresh food frequently sourced from local ingredients. The food is well priced, as is the wine list which includes a number of very good local vinos. Most popular with the locals who certainly know value!

Approximate cost: $25.00

I popped into Bancroft Bites on my way out of Metung to grab a few takeaway drinks. It was a busy Sunday morning, however I found the service to be quite slow. I waited approximately 12 minutes for two hot takeaway drinks. The cafe is very small, so there is nowhere you can wait without getting in the way of wait staff, or find yourself standing too close to diners.
The drinks were fine once I eventually received them, although there was no apology for the wait.
The decor is lovely.

I feel this review is rather unreasonable. You acknowledged (1) the restaurant/café was small (2) it was high season - mid January and (3) it only took 12 minutes for a takeaway. This place is NOT McDonalds!

I make these comments as both a small business owner in Melbourne (I actively use this site for my business) and a long term home owner at Metung. Small business owners generally work hard (as do the sisters at Bites) and respond positively to criticism. But is has to be fair.

Metung is blessed to have 2 excellent restaurants.(Bites and The Metung Galley). Both have been awarded hats by The Age and both offer excellent menus.

This week my wife and I ate at Bites. We heard another customer, a South African chef, praising the owners for their meals. They regarded it as one of the best they had had anywhere in the world. High praise.

Next time, perhaps stop and enjoy this establishment. It is indeed excellent

I'm happy to hear that you enjoy the restaurant scene Metung has to offer.
12 minutes I found to be quite unreasonable for two takeaway drinks.
Especially since there was no 'sorry about the wait'. The cafe is so small that there is nowhere to wait for those drinks, and you are either in the way of staff, or standing right next to someone trying to enjoy their meal.
If they can't cope, all they have to do is say that there is a 10+minute wait. Fine- I'll go across the road to the bakery.
It's not hard to be upfront with customers.
