Dirt cheap books, you want? LOOK NO FURTHER!
Basement Books sells 'remaindered' books. Meaning that, when a book shop wants to get rid of excess copies of books they're not selling, closes down, or a publisher printed too many copies of what they hoped would be a best seller, they end up in the publishers hands, and the publisher sells them, cheap, to a place like Basement Books. The books you buy here will usually be marked with a line down one edge of it. But when you're buying a $20 title for $2? Who cares.

Basement Books is massive. And cluttered. And a mess. It's kind of like Wonderland for book nerds.

At any given time, they'll have a massive range of SUPER cheap books across all categories, but they can't be relied upon for a specific title (it's simply not what they're in the business of providing). If you're just browsing for a bargain, this is a gem.

They also sell art/craft supplies, and at any given time, they have a fantastic array of classics. I make a point of wasting an hour browsing the stacks and shelves in Basement Books every time I visit the city!

Approximate cost: $1-$10

This shop has a reasonable range of classics, coffee-table and reference books at great prices. Unfortunately the selection of non-fiction books, particularly science & history has declined in the past year. In fact, the Science section has totally disappeared! so this has made the place less attractive for us. Despite all this, the Basement books has one of the best value art supplies in Sydney. Our children are making the best out of their bulk discounts.

Best Book shop I have ever come across, Vast range of BARGAIN books, so much so that I always come out with one everytime I visit. It is located outside the tunnel in central station, a must for booklovers!
