We were out for a drive on Saturday night and came across an old fashioned little strip shopping area in Altona. It's accessed by going around a roundabout from Maidstone St. Now "Best in the West" is a big claim to fame especially for a very small shop with basically a counter, big ovens, an ice cream fridge and about three tables. And so they don't quite live up to it. Maybe if they'd said "Biggest in the West" they would have been more accurate. We got three large pizzas, but really they were much more like family size - Very large indeed. And the toppings went to the edge and plenty of them like ham and mushrooms and chicken etc but the real let down was the lack of a really good thick, rich tomato puree base. There wasn't much and that made the pizzas, which would otherwise have been excellent, just middling. Garlic bread was $3.

Value was there with the very large "large" priced at $14. We sampled Capricciosa, Margarita and Kings Cross which includes chicken. There are many other varieties of their own making - some with hot salami, others with capsicum, onion and even spaghetti. All called some quaint names which I can't remember.

Two very pleasant gentlemen making and serving. No eftpos, only cash. Closed on Mondays. Gelati available in another floor fridge.

So if you go, and I would advise you to try them - make sure you ask for extra, extra tomato on the bottom. And watch out for the step on the way out, I nearly forgot about it. Easy parking across the road.

Good pizza, lotsa cheese. Close to school, work, etc. Service was good & friendly, quick pizza! good selecion of drinks too. Try! I went there wityh family and they made a nice table for us

I agree, these guys are quite a nice place, I recommend to anyone in the area to try. I went there a few months ago and quite lovely food & service, shame they're not closer to Toorak :) Good pizza!

Best in the West have bee around for years. They make one the best spaghetti pizza ever. This is mainly a take away pizza place that also sell the italian gelati. The owners have been running this place for a long time and are well known in Altona
