When the drive in at Bass Hill closed down it meant that the only option here in Sydney was Blacktown. A little bit more of a drive but well worth it! A well priced night out and great to enjoy your favourite movie in the open air (especially in summer!)
If you haven't been I highly recommend trying it out!

That it's Sydney's only remaining drive-in is kind of sad, but also makes a night at the twin-screen open-air cinema kind of more space--gives it a certain nostalgia.

For about $15 (per person, NOT per car), we got a ticket to see TWO movies. If a sequel is coming out (a new Fast and Furious is particularly fun to see at the drive in!) you'll usually see the two films back to back, but if not, expect a new release comedy or drama, paired with a older, similar-genre film. If you have a Greater Union/Event Cinemas Cinebuzz card, you'll get a discounted ticket, too!

The place is huge, and even when you get there late (as the movie's starting), you'll find a decent parking lot. But arrive early! Stock up on popcorn and soak in the vibe!

Make sure you pick a clear night to go. Drive-in in the rain isn't so much fun :D

Approximate cost: $15

They screen the same movies and sometimes even a few older ones- the price is the same and even cheaper when you have movie marathons. It is amazing value and the experience is unforgettable.

My absolute favourite way to watch a movie!

Although I havent been since my son was born, I love going to Blacktown Drive In! It's such great value, given the price of regular movie tickets these days and most of all, such an experience! To be able to go out to watch movies on a big screen, in the comfort of your own space in/or around your car, in your pyjamas and gorging on your fave foods and snacks, is an awesome feeling! Plus when its finished, once you get home you're ready for bed...whats not to love about that?! LOL I'm so glad we have one so close to home, as I would definitely love to take my son there one day when he's a little bit older. Staff on duty whenever we go are always friendly and helpful. If I have to fault anything, it would be the toilet amenities..its ok, clean enough but really dated..a little sprucing would make it much better. I truly hope that Blacktown Drive In sticks around for quite some time to come!

I LOVE the old drive in cinemas in Blacktown. It is so easy and fun and a great time for the whole family. We drive our big van inside and snuggle up in a heap of blankets. There are intermissions so you can go to the candy store and have a bathroom break.

You better go soon because there are only 1 or 2 drive in cinemas in Australia. They cost so much to run and if you don't go, you many not get another chance to go to a drive in movie!

The experience is one of the very best and I love it so much. Bring a couple of friends or your date for an amazing movie!

So old-school that it's hip.

The drive-in is heading for a revival with everyone noticing all the pluses it provides.

First and foremost - tickets are only $10/person (up to 4 people) with a Cinebuzz Card and that's for TWO movies. The first movies is always a new release, with the second a slightly older new release, which is usually still playing at regular cinemas.

Secondly, this is a perfect option if you have kids. Make them comfortable in the back with a portable DVD player, a blanket and block of chocolate while you enjoy the feature you'd otherwise miss out on. (Also perfect of for parents of new borns that need a date! Baby can sleep or cry and not disturb anyone but your spouse, and you can settle bubs with out any of the pressure of having to keep them quiet)

Thirdly, you can deck the back of your hatch with blankets and pillows and enjoy a movie under the stars, or you can park your car a little further back and picnic on the ground on warm balmy nights.

Downside: Terrible when it's raining.

Charms: Old school retro, the crackly sound from the old speakers and the terrible diner.

Warning: Expect an unhappy tummy if you opt for the fish cocktail - my suggestion - go for things that come in packets! or Better still pack your own nibbles and just get your frozen coke or magnum at the Candy Bar.

Approximate cost: $10 with Cinebuzz

This is by far the bet way to see a movie. If you have a cinebuzz card (free to get one) then you can see 2 movies for $10 and you can bring your own snacks and pillows and whatever you want because you are in your car. I absolutely love it!!!
