So unprofessional and had little care for our pets

I would encourage strongly people not to use this service. We decided to drop our two budgies off here given there were many good reviews (after our experience I’m not sure how).

First of all, I had to ask 3 days in a row to get photo updates of our pets and my messages were just totally read and ignored for 3 days which was worrying. (I have the screen shots to validate this too). If someone is paying a fee for someone to look after their pets (regardless how big or small they are) this should be met. This was when our concerns started to rise.

Then when we finally received the image of our pets, you could only see one budgie clearly and he was missing all his flight feathers on his wing. I then asked what has happened here? And the owner responded “he’s had a moult and dropped a few feathers”. Anyone who looks after birds and has experience with wild or pet birds knows that a moult doesn’t happen like this. They moult gradually and symmetrically. A quick google search can also clarify this. You can also see in one of the photos I have attached that on his right wing (which has flight feathers remaining there is a clean straight cut as if someone has tried to clip the other side with scissors)

Then we picked them up yesterday. I noticed BOTH budgies were missing flight feathers on one wing. This only happens during illness, shock or injury. I asked how this has happened to both of them and they said ‘moulting’. Being experienced with birds myself, I know this wasn’t true.

I also noticed that their brand new water fountain was shoved at the bottom of the box I sent them with and was broken and smashed! Not an apology or a reimbursement for it either. We are also missing two perches. I have photos of their wings intact and cage set up before I sent them in to prove this too.

I sent them in with a black large towel to cover their cage at night and whilst in transport, one of the owners brought out a small black dirty towel covered in dog or cat fur and told me this was mine. I explained mine was a much larger towel which covered the cage and she refused to believe me. We eventually found our towel outside on a bench which was a little strange?

I have no idea what has happened to my birds, but the no photos until asking for 3 days, a broken water dish and BOTH budgies missing one wing with flight feathers each?? I still have no explanation or apology and had to pay double upon pick up than we initially verbally agreed on and also what is listed on their website, but I was told their pricing on their website is out of date and this is somehow my fault?

Me and my partner were of course extremely emotional and was demanding explanations but we were told “I don’t know I just work here, this is why I hate coming in on a Sunday”.

I appreciate that these are small pets, but their flight feathers give them the ability to fly. Without them they cannot fly. It is the equivalent to a dog losing a leg and being unable to run! We feel as though we’ve not been taken serious at all.

We did arrange to collect them outside of their usual collection and pick up hours which was the only pro! But hours of 9-12 for drop off or pick up? Most people work during these hours..

There are far more flexible, professional places in and around Perth than these. Would avoid at all costs.

Approximate cost: $400

I needed urgent housing for my 2 dogs ( 1 of the dogs needs daily medication)as I was moving to a house that wouldnt let me have the dogs there, after speaking to Kylie and Nicole and going through everything with them, they put my mind at ease, the dogs ended up staying there for 4 weeks.the ladies look after the dogs like they where their own. Should I ever need to house the dogs in kennels again Blue cross Kennels will be the first and only kennels I call

Nicole and the team at Blue Cross Animal services have been a loving second home to our cat Loulou for two multi-week stays now and we could not recommend them highly enough. We moved home to Australia from overseas last year and Nicole at Blue Cross noticed Loulou was weighing in quite light after 10 days in quarantine in Melbourne. They found food that she liked and nursed her back to a healthy weight. When we were finally out of hotel quarantine and able to pick her up, she didn’t want to leave!

A complete disaster. They looked after our two guinea pigs over the Xmas and New Year break and ended up killing them through neglect. If these people are not prepared to look after animals properly during the heat of summer then they should not be allowed to continue running their business. Hopefully the RSPCA agree and will either shut them down or force them to provide better facilties for future animals so no one else has to go through this very traumatic experience.
