Normally I go to this restaurant for pasta. I had the Fettuccine Mushroom pasta - Yummy! they served nice creamy sauce and the good part is well portioned for me (not too little not too much!). The Fettuccine was not overcooked, it is just perfect. their service were good (friendly staff and easy to get their attention) and quick!

Poor service, the waiter was not very helpful and didn't apologise when he brought out the wrong order. Pizzas are ok, but the service is very poor and rude.

I guess other people have lucked out, but the times I've been here, service has been TERRIBLE. Each time they have stuffed up our order and not brought something. On the most recent occasion, they forgot my meal, and I had to have an extensive argument with the waiter and have my friends back me up to say I had ordered a meal! Hello, why would four of us only order three meals? By the time my pizza came everyone else had finished eating. When we went to pay and asked for a discount due to the mixup, the owner/manager man at the counter refused to believe that the mistake had happened - resulting in yet another extensive discussion/argument. What a waste of time and for totally average food. Apparently their customer service motto is not "the customer is always right", but rather "the customer is ALWAYS wrong unless they prove otherwise"! Never again.

I've been dining at Cafe Corretto for years and years - pretty much for as long as it has been in business, which has to be at least 15 years now. It's the only place in Lygon St where I bother to go for pizza these days. The others I've tried (Toto's, Papa Gino's, Il Gambero) are overrated in my opinion.

Cafe Corretto gets it exactly right; thin, crispy crust, never undercooked, never burnt, and a choice of toppings that go well beyond the boring old capricciosa, margherita, marinara, and so on. My favourite is the pizza modena, which includes asparagus, corn, semi-dried tomatoes, and bocconcini among its toppings.

Their pastas are OK, but unspectacular. Having said that, I don't know of anywhere in Lygon St that makes a really good pasta these days - not since Key on the Wall changed hands, anyway. Corretto's pasta is probably no better nor worse than you'll find at lots of other places. it's the pizzas that make it stand out from the crowd.

Service tends to be erratic, depending on which waiter you get. It's usually friendly enough, but waiting times can vary a lot, especially if they're very busy. It's not unusual for three people at a table to be almost finished eating while the fourth person is still waiting for their meal to arrive. I've found that the pizzas tend to come out in a bunch, and the pastas come out in another bunch, so if all your friends ordered pizzas and you ordered the pasta, or vice versa, you can expect quite a difference in serving times. That's not necessarily the waiter's fault, though - more likely, the kitchen is to blame. I suspect there are two kitchens, or two divisions of the one kitchen, and they're completely independent of each other, so the meals are uncoordinated.

It's also not unusual for the staff to get the order wrong. Sometimes it's fine and there are no glitches; other times, things go spectacularly wrong. But if you can put up with erratic service, occasionally bordering on inept, it's good pizza and good value for money.

We love this place. Fabulous pizza and pasta and the bruschetta is to die for! Exceptionally reasonably priced food and great coffee. A great family place. I could sit there all day. The only thing is the service can be a bit hit and miss when they are busy.

I went here for dinner one Saturday night with an Italian friend who was visiting Melbourne. We were a little hesitant at first because it seemed a little over-the-top with the enormous amount for Ferrari memorabilia, but everywhere else was full. As someone who used to work in hospitality, I found this place extremely disappointing - we had to wait 45 minutes for someone to come over and take our order (that included our drink order). We were then waiting ~30 minutes for our food and we'd only ordered pizza and the place wasn't even full. I ordered their prosciutto pizza - quite nice, but way too much cheese. My friend was also disappointed in his pizza which also had too much cheese. Looking around at the dishes people around us were eating, his opinion was that, despite being run by Italian people, this place wasn't cooking authentic Italian food - it had been more Australian-ised to suit the type of Italian food we're used to here. Once we'd had enough of our food (couldn't finish it because of all the cheese) we were then waiting for another 45 minutes or so for someone to come over to clear our plates and settle our bill. The place was nearly empty by this point, so we saw no reason for the wait. We eventually gave up and got up to pay our bill at the bar, leaving our half-finished meals still sitting on the table.

Approximate cost: $10-$20

Food is cheap and quality is satisfactory. Service could do with some sprucing up. On one occasion they totally lost my dining partners meal, had to ask where is was and we were blamed for not ordering it when we had! Just recently (reluctant return) with friends they brought the wrong pizzas to us! Fast food prep.

Approximate cost: $15.00

The portion sizes here a quite generous and the food is good value. The cafe can be busy at times, so patience is a must. I thought the staff were kind and friendly.

My husband and I like catching up with friends over dinner at Cafe Corretto. Their pizzas are always good. Actually all of their food tastes great. You may have to wait for a seat though.

Approximate cost: $18
