Lots of choice and in the heart of Manuka. Not as flashy as other local options - but suitable for a pre/post movie meal.

Mid week after a movie we crossed Franklin Street to try a supper meal at Caphs. There were plenty of tables free which might have been a sign to notice. We ordered a chicken triple deck sandwish ($13.50) and a salmon triple deck sandwich (same price). I could not eat the salmon as it was too salty and the cream cheese was not fresh. The chicken sandwich was again too salty. The service was quick and attentive but as we did not want to order wine we were quickly left to our own company. No conversation just the order taken. The food took a while to be delivered and then it was not satisfactory standard to visit this cafe again. We are sure that colleagues like this place but for $27 we could have had a better meal elsewhere.

I met up with a friend there for some brunch (I went for breakfast and he went for lunch). I ordered a coffee and eggs benedict with buttered mushrooms on the side, and to be honest, the food left much, much, much to be desired.

First of all - the coffee. It was served in a huge glass that would normally be used for say, a frappe, so the result was a very weak latte because they've obviously just put one shot of coffee in and filled the rest of the glass with milk.

Second - the eggs benedict. The egg were not soft poached; they were hardly runny at all. The English muffin tasted like the ones you would get from a supermarket and the hollandaise sauce was very gluggy. In fact, it was so gluggy I could scoop up mounds of it with a fork.

Third - the mushrooms. You know those mushrooms you can get in a can? How the texture is rather different from fresh mushrooms? I strongly suspect what they did was crack open a can, tip it in a ramekin, put a slab of butter on it and pop it in the microwave.

Fourth - there was a hair in my food. Need I say more?

Fifth - the service. We asked for the bill at 1.30pm, and they didn't take it (even though quite a few waitresses had walked past and clearly saw the credit card poking out of the folder) until 2pm. I understand they were busy. But too busy to be paid? C'mon.

Great location, delicious food and nice ambience (inside or out) although they can run out of clean cutlery and forget to bring your water... but service is generally ok :)

Needed a bite between movies and this seemed like a good place. Nice outdoor seating even though it's a lil chilly in winter. The creamy king prawn with butter rice was rich and comforting. Pastas were good too.

I visited this cafe with 6 others for dinner one Sunday evening and we were all delighted with our meal and the service . I believe it has changed hands recently so maybe the new owners have improved the standard of the cafe - other reviews don't treat it very kindly. Our meals were all delicious and well presented, the wine was a reasonable price and the staff were all very pleasant, friendly and most helpful. We had a great evening.

We've eaten at Caphs many times over the years. It used to be fantastic, but, has changed a bit in the last few years. Staff don't seem as proud to work there as they used to and you get a bit forgotten. Generally the value for money is pretty good still.

We have been to this cafe a number of times. The service was always prompt and we received our meals very quickly. However, we did go at a time that was not very busy. I asked for an extra side to my dish and they were happy to oblige. Two times out of the three they charged a nominal amount extra which I was happy to pay. However, the third time they charged me an exorbinant amount extra for my side which was ridiculous. I questioned the bill and they refused to reduce it. I was very disappointed as we did enjoy our meal. But I would not go back to them again

I went here recently, andI was hungry. I left hungry! Theglass was dirty, the food was pre-prepared and re-heated, and there was an eye lash in my food. When I complained, I needed to do so twice as the first waitor went and had a coffee instead. Do not go here!

Approximate cost: $15.00
