Agree with all the other reviewers - how rude is the owner?! Will never be going here again, plenty of better places around.
The concept is great however I felt really uncomfortable with the way the staff were spoken to by the owner and did not enjoy our experience there at all.

I would definitely never set foot in the place again or recommend anyone else does. The behaviour of the owner towards his staff is absolutely appalling to the point I asked a staff member why they still worked there! Sadly they only did it as they needed the job! Yes its the only wine bar in the area but please someone else open soon!

Totally agree with you. We have stopped going to Chaucers because of the behaviour of the owner. Glen iris/Malvern East really needs a good wine bar with good food and an owner who doesn't constantly put down his staff.

Who would have thought you could get coffee from a wine bar. Have had breakfast there too which was good. Small place so not an extensive menu but what they do have is good. But we wont ever go back because the owner very loudly puts down his staff constantly. We go their for coffee not to listen to him ranting. we always found the service great, so it's not staff that are the problem!!!!

We happened upon Chaucer's and decided to give it a go...we were impressed. The menu is small, but the food was fresh, good quality and delicious. We ordered wine by the glass, very nice, the staff are knowledgeable and can recommend something you'll enjoy. The coffee is also, good. The place itself is comfortable and casual, with walls of wine. We thought the prices were very reasonable...3 meals, 2 coffees and 5 glasses of wine for $97 is good value.
We'll be back...and it's walking distance from our home.

Operating both as a cafe and a cellars, Chaucers has consistently great quality coffee - we think it's the best in the area. Food is simple but always fresh, tasty and reasonably priced. The staff there are lovely and get to know regulars quickly. They also have great knowledge of the different wines in stock and are happy to provide suggestions.

We were recommended to try this as we heard the coffee was very good. So we went for breakfast on the weekend. The coffee was good, the food was quite tasty though not generous but the service was slow. This place has potential if it can get its act together. A small breakfast menu of mainly eggs, a fair lunch menu.

Approximate cost: $15
