Fantastic late lunch in a really nice setting. Expansive green grass leads up from the promenade to a terrace and indoor seats.

Customs house for lunch was average meal of burgers.
Setting was elegant but cosy.
Service was good but did have an issue when utilised Groupon voucher at end of the meal.
Chicken burger had lots of coating but not much chicken. Beef burger ok but nothing great.
Chips were yummy.
Presentation was nice.

We generally go here on special occasions as it is a little pricey. We have always had delicious food and I love the atmosphere - very cosy and rustic feel.

We decided to have a change from Christmas lunch at home and booked at Customs House. The food was all presented on share plates, which is something I did not like. The first two courses were slow coming out, and were so small that they looked like they were meant for one person, not four. There was also an issue with there not being enough of everything on the plate for each person to have, such as two oysters to share between four people. The main course was a lot better, with three different meats, but light on for vegetables. The dessert and cheese courses were very good though. The waitress was lovely, but there were clearly some issues with staff not being on top of things like drinks and cutlery. Overall it was a nice experience, but I think for the price charged per head there needs to be some improvements made.

Approximate cost: $125

My husband and I dined at Customs House on our anniversary, a couple of months ago. While we knew that cost-wise, it was at the upper end, we decided to treat ourselves (actually it was my husband's treat!).

While the decor and atmosphere were quite nice (felt like I could have been in Paris), we were rather disappointed in the overall experience.

The service started out promising, however I felt it slipped a quite a bit over the course of the evening. It was hard to catch the waitresses attention to order another drink and when they took our only half eaten entrees away, there was no question of whether everything was ok.

The food was what we were most disappointed with. For entree I ordered the prawn cocktail which really lacked flavour. My husband ordered the pork belly which neither of us finished as it was chewy and unappetising. In fact it was the worst pork belly I have had anywhere.

Mains were an improvement, however, neither had the wow factor, which at this pricepoint you kind of expect. I had the salmon and my husband had the kangaroo.

We also felt that the menu was a tad on the small side, which is fine if there are a couple of specials, but there weren't.

I can certainly see this as a very promising fine dining restaurant, however currently I feel that there is a lot of room for improvement.

On a positive note, I did love the look of the library/bar and can see this as a great place to enjoy a cocktail or dessert, and perhaps we will give this a go at some stage.

For the money though, there are far better options.

I have been very curious about what it is like at Customs House since it opened. I am glad I read your review, it is so helpful because of the detail.
