One of the best pizza place in Melbourne. Thin crispy and perfect balance of ingredients on the pizzas. The antipasto was also excellent! I normally dont eat olives but these are great and not too salty. The buffalo mozzarella are chewy and nice!

This is now officially my favourite pizza place. We went last year and wanted to go again, and when better than on a long holiday weekend? So we trekked down this past Saturday for lunch there. We had such an amazing first experience, that we got the same stuff again! hahah! next time, we promised each other that we'd try something new! So, my hubby got Pizza Capricciosa Nuova - -which he LOVED! he says it has THE BEST LEG HAM he's ever tasted on it! I got the Focacia (the bread there tastes soooo good!) and ate it with the Caprese Salad - which has the most unbelievable buffalo mozzarella. To die for! Hands down, D.O.C. won us over completely on our second visit.... can't wait to go again! You can read more about our first trip there here: http://twobearsandafork.blogspot.com.au/2013/12/doc-gastronomia-italiana-carlton.html

What a treat! I am kicking myself that we haven't visited D.O.C earlier. Has to one of the best pizzeria's around, sure it gets busy but that's because the pizza is amazing, light, fresh and tasty. Love the selections of mozzarella and the busy atmosphere. We've found our new favourite pizzeria!

DOC serve some of the best antipasti and mozzarella that I have had in a long time. A lot of the mozzarella is made on site and it is so so delicious. My partner and I shared a mozzarella ball, grissini and ordered a pizza each and were absolutely stuffed! Such great food and fantastic thin crust pizza bases! The service is a bit all over the place but nothing horrible. Come for the food!

What can I say beside WOW. Lots so it seems...

So I decided to take my husband to this DOC, as I had been to the Mornington sister restaurant previously without him. We just managed to score ourselves a table, and were handed menus quite quickly.
We decided on sharing a cold meat platter with hand torn buffalo mozerella ball - oh my lordy. The deliciousness of that mozerella ball will make you instantly forget how much you paid for it, and make you question your decision to only order one...to share. We managed to keep some of our cold meat and mozerella for extras on our pizza (sneaky little tip), and we ordered a basic mozerella, tomato and fresh basil pizza. Now, as a wife of a guy who doesn't hand out food compliments too often (which makes me paranoid...), he claimed that this was THE best pizza he has ever had. Big call, I know, but he was dead right. It was incredible. The basics on the pizza really draw out the flavours in the sauce and the marriage of the basil, cheese and tomato is a match made in heaven. The only thing that made this better was a sprinke of the left over prosiccuto I had saved and a small portion of the fresh buffalo mozerella. Food heaven.

I would be back here weekly if it wasn't so far to drive. Probably for the best though :)

You really must experience this place, and get here early to avoid disappointment of not getting in because the place is perma-packed!

I am a bit of a pizza guru so can make comparison with similar pizza places on par: 400 gradi, Woodstock being my two faves so far. D.O.C is a great addition to the pizza restaurants within the inner city and a welcome addition to those Seeking an authentic Italian made pizza with just a few simple toppings (just like they are made in Italy) but with a modern take on a few toppings. A must try - worthwhile going on a weeknight as the weekends can become quite busy and hard to get a table.

My girlfriends and I had a most enjoyable meal here last weekend. This place got really busy later at that night.
We had Pizza, pasta, lasagne and a salad. All food served very quickly by attentive, friendly and welcoming staff.
Well, they have small menu but everything is delicious, generous serves and also good wine list.

Always have a fantastic time at this great restaurant. A bit on the pricey side, but totally worth it if you're after authentic pizza and great quality antipasto.

I went to try out DOCs after receiving rave reviews from my cousin. We ordered the prociutto and mushroom pizzas which were 2 of the most expensive on their menu. We did enjoy the pizzas but for the price did not think it was worth what they had charged. The mozzarella left a kind of greasy aftertaste which lingered until i could take a sip of my drink.
They have a very strict policy on not altering their menu in any way which i find a a tad anal. My daughter has numerous allergies and they would not even hear of removing the cheese from a pizza base so that she could enjoy a meal with us instead of having to eat the meal I had pre-prepared for her.

D.O.C is one of my favourite, home to many Italians and highly regarded as TOP 5 in the WORLD PIZZA JUDGE website on facebook. This is a serious place with serious Italian waiters and it's lovely to hear the accent, however they can seem abusive if they are having a bad day. If you can get past this your in for a fantastic Pizza. They are not cheap so have an extra few dollars when you go. Be warned, get in early as this place is insanely busy.

DOC? Originally I thought this must mean Drunk On Cheese?

Actually quite the opposite! This place is a traditional pizza shop as you would find in Italy as the ingredients are sparingly applied however are rich in flavor. The idea of a good pizza is to have the crust crispy and light, not like the ones you find at pizza hut which are overloaded with cheese and the middle of the pizza being soggy.

We also ordered the radicchio salad and the serving was a good size.

Whilst the pizzas tasted good and were cooked with the chese and other ingredients being real authentic ingredients - much from Italy, I did not find the pizzas really any more inspiring than the pizzas we get from Pizza Espresso in Templestowe which runs on the same mantra of less is more.

As most other reviewers have found, the service was slow - not so much because of the waiters, I think that the place was overloaded as they were also placing chairs and tables on the sidewalk and around the restaurant to cope with the people queuing up to dine here. We queued for about 1/2 hour and then waited another 1/2 hour once our order was placed - we could have ordered pizza hut to deliver in the mean time!!

Overall a good place to have pizza, one of the better ones but once you've had similar at other places such as Pizza Espresso, it's very good but not amazing!

I have been back to DOC and Pizza Espresso several times since. I still rate Pizza Espresso the better of the two. Despite the limited menu compared to DOC, I think that Pizza Espresso's pizzas have better flavor/texture with the dough. It may have something to do with the oven being more "seasoned" or worn in by the wood smoke as over time these sorts of things get better with age and deliver a better taste, just like with Chinese Cantonese Wok cooking, the older and more seasoned the Wok, the better the flavor that comes through into the food.

D.O.C Pizza bar is a great traditional pizza the best in the lygon precedent. The antipasto is sourced from Italy and is all very fresh. The ebst pizza is a simple buffalo mozzarella and prosciutto. However the service is very Italian meaning at their leisure and depending on their mood. Will still go there. The mozzarella DOC is fantastic
