From my first visit to the shop I was impressed by the knowledge and help offered. The kitchen was installed without any problems. The quality of cabinets and workmanship was very good. Thanks for a beautiful kitchen.
Dear Direct Kitchens Team!
Thank you so much for our beautiful kitchen! We enjoy it every day, from the very first morning coffee till late night as the kitchen is also the part of our second living area.
The kitchen looks bright, fresh and modern.
The most important it's not only a "stunner" from outside, but it's super functional.
The most amazing thing about our project with Direct Kitchens was the time frame the job was done (within 1 month just before Christmas) and the high quality of it.
Next time we need a new kitchen- Direct Kitchens ONLY!
I'm delighted with my new kitchen, it's better than I could have imagined and wonder why I didn't renovate it years ago! The whole direct captions team were fantastic. From the initial design consultation and getting the ideas down on paper to the total project management of the build went really well. The tradesmen were professional, courteous and very respectful of being in someone else's home. Thank you for my fabulous kitchen, it has the 'wow' factor I was after!
We engaged Direct Kitchens in September 2016. We have some issues for which we have negotiated a resoltion and are looking forward to our kitchen being completed soon.
Direct Kitchens were fantastic. They designed and built me the kitchen of my dreams including some fairly major renovations. There were some minor issues along the way-
to be expected with such a major job- but they sorted absolutely everything out to perfection. Special call out to our kitchen designer who was totally amazing.
I am so inspired to cook healthy yummy food now that I have a great space to do it in and I am entertaining far more often. (I love having guests sitting at our new breakfast bar drinking wine whilst I do my best celebrity chef impersonation)
We are now the proud owners of a very attractive and functional kitchen.
The initial planning stage was excellent and took into account all our needs.
The quality of the new kitchen was enhanced by the skills of the well qualified tradesmen who built and installed all areas. These included cabinetry, electrical and plumbing, and in addition a specialist who advised on colour and fitted a beautiful glass splashback.
We are vey happy with the new updated kitchen which has been admired by our many visitors.
Love my new kitchen,
Direct Kitchens were professional, helpful, and certainly are the experts in kitchen design.
everything went smoothly and efficiently - everyone involved did a great job to make it all look fantastic. With thanks
Thank you for arranging for your lovely and talented Designer to come into our lives. We were looking for inspiration (and in all honesty, probably just dreaming) of our kitchen makeover till we met her.
Her design ideas were far superior to anything we had imagined ourselves and are truly inspired. We went from simply considering the idea of updating our kitchen to making it happen very swiftly.
This would not have occurred without your Designer and her brilliant design. We look forward to this wonderful adventure continuing as our dream kitchen becomes reality.
Thanks for all your help and support.
Everyone at Direct Kitchens and Tradesmen have been great.
My Kitchen looks bigger and I`m sure the food will taste better!!
I am extremely happy with the whole new look of my new Kitchen. The designer listened to my needs and made positive suggestions. He didn`t rush or pressure me which was so helpful as this was an enormous decision to make on my own. Everyone involved in my project from the showroom consultant through to the installation team were very friendly, kind, and understanding. Nothing was too much trouble. They were all hard working and the result is a fantastic new kitchen which I am enjoying using.
All my family and friends are also impressed. Thank you to all.
From the moment we walked in to the Moonee Ponds sales room to the time out kitchen our kitchen renovation was finished we couldn't have been more pleased with our experience and have already recommended friends to them.
The way they controlled the whole process from planning to implementation and installation was outstanding and we are now very satisfied Direct Kitchens advocates,
Approximate cost: $3500
Very pleased with the quality of the finish and materials used, meets all of the initial requirements for our dream kitchen. Tradesmen very good.
We are 3rd time customers with Direct Kitchens. Our first project was in 1992 where we engaged their services to design and build our Kitchen. We lived in this house for 22 years and within this time the only thing that ever needed attention in the kitchen was 1 door knob replacement.
The kitchen looked as good and contemporary as the day it was installed.
2 years after the kitchen, we again engaged Direct Kitchens to do a huge laundry project which included custom made cabinets and sewing area.
It worked extremely well and again was still in excellent condition when we sold the house 18 months ago.
We are now renovating our new home and it goes without saying, due the the wonderful past track record, we have again engaged Direct Kitchens without any hesitation to design and build our new kitchen.
The quality of the cabinetry and Hardware has stood the test of time.
Their level of service has been outstanding.
Direct kitchens was able to listen to my needs and design and build my kitchen to exactly what I wanted.
People had previously said to me that what I was wanting to do was not possible but your fabulous designer really listened and worked with me and was able to think outside the square
The renovation process was more challenging living in an upstairs apartment near the city.
My granite bench tops had to be crane lifted onto the balcony and then carried in to the apartment. All the cabinetry had to brought upstairs by a small lift. Somehow all the trades managed to pull it all together. Now that my beautiful new kitchen is in and being used, I am loving every aspect of it. From the fully integrated dish drawer dishwasher to the mirrored splashbacks which reflect the trees in the park across the road, to the high quality 2 PAC painted doors and drawers, this kitchen has added class and a statement to my apartment and lifestyle. Thank you Direct Kitchens for providing me with my dream kitchen.

When we visited your showroom we were shown all the options available and the experience was good. Then the designer came out and she listened to what we wanted and made valuable suggestions. She also assisted us with our tile choice, colours, and benchtop co-ordination. We felt that we were on the same page so the process went very smoothly because of this. We had quite a bit of structural work done to open up what was a small kitchen area to now having a large entertaining area, where the kitchen is a focal point in our home. All the trades people were very pleasant, hard working and competent and cleaned up after themselves respecting our home.
We are extremely happy with the entire process from beginning to end.
The final result being a quality kitchen which blends our heritage home into a modern feel.
We now have plenty of storage and bench space and a beautiful looking Kitchen and Appliances.
We looked at other kitchen companies and decided you were the most suitable for our needs.
We would recommend Direct Kitchens to our friends because the service was excellent, and the designer and tradesmen were supportive and friendly and catered to our needs.
I`m delighted to share in a review how happy we are with our new kitchen.
The process was easy from start to finish. All the staff we dealt with from design, demo, install and payments were all professional and friendly. Everyone did what they said they would do on the day and time they arranged with us.
The design is great, our Designer assisted us with suggesting great storage solutions to use every bit of space, no void areas left unutilized.
The quality of our kitchen is a high standard and functionality is perfect.
We wouldn`t change a thing, we are very happy customers indeed.
Please pass on our gratitude to our Designer. I have been meaning to share photos with her of the finished product.

We would like to thank you for your help and patience in designing and making our kitchen cabinets. The Kitchen looks great and we were impressed with the service and follow up to our questions. We appreciated your professional and efficient service. A special thank you to the tradesmen too. Warm regards, Steve & Alex.
Lessons learned from Direct Kitchens
In mid November 2013, my wife and I visited the Direct Kitchens showroom in Moonee Ponds (Vic).
As their work looked quite impressive and they were offering a 20% discount, we accepted an appointment with one of their designers. A week later we met with this lady (call her J) at our house. As our kitchen is adjacent to the laundry which had some extra space, we explained that we wanted to move a wall by about 35cms to expand the kitchen. J did a first sketch and suggested that we reduce the laundry to the minimum and turn around the washing machine and trough so it would now be accessible from the kitchen. Apparently it's called a Euro laundry and is the latest craze in kitchen design!
A week later an appointment was made at the Moonee Ponds showroom where we had to select the various finishes and be given a quote. We were showed different materials and among other things were the soft close doors and drawers. We were told that they came at an extra cost but as we wanted a quality kitchen we accepted this fact. After two and half hours we were presented with the quote which amounted to around $53,000. Our kitchen isn't very big so we thought that it was rather expensive and asked about the 20% discount.
In typical used car salesman technique, we were told that the discount was only available if we signed on the spot. We wanted to think about it and come back to her later in the week but that was not an option. The fine print clearly stated that it was valid on the day only.
The other benefit we were sold on was the fact that they took care of everything: builder, plumber, electrician, cabinetry, glazier etc. This appealed to us a lot as we are well aware how unreliable tradespeople are. They highlighted the fact that they were a HIA builder and the work came with a 7 year warranty.
After the discount and some minor adjustments, we agreed on a total price of $44,435 excluding appliances.
Mistake number 1: We gave in and paid a deposit. We were assured that they would manage the whole project and work would be completed in 5 weeks and a note was made on the contract.
Another appointment was made with their tech man (call him G) a couple of weeks later. G made a detailed plan and left us with a copy. Another deposit of $7,665 was made and the work was booked to start in early February 2014.
Fortunately there was Christmas and New Year in between and we had time to think about the new design they were proposing. It dawned on us that it was pointless to make the laundry open in the kitchen behind what they called bi-fold doors. We already had a laundry and the logical thing to do was simply move the washing machine and trough forward and gain exactly the same space in the kitchen area. So we designed our own plan and emailed it to them. G came back and took some measurements and confirmed that it made sense.
A few days later we noticed that the whole warranty was a 5 word statement: “Product Warranty – seven (7) years.†That's it!
We asked J about it and she acted very surprised that we would question this as none of her clients had ever raised this question before. Since structural work was being done we insisted that a more specific guarantee be extended to the wall, plumbing, electrical work etc. They wouldn't have a bar of this and at one point G told us that if we didn't like it we could cancel the order. Great way of handling a customer query!
Subsequently, we spoke directly to the builder who agreed to send a separate letter guaranteeing his work.
On February 10th the builder turned up and removed the kitchen and the wall. Worked progressed quite well and a couple of weeks later the kitchen cabinets and new appliances were installed.
As the kitchen was being put in we realised that the doors were not “soft close†only the drawers were. We phoned J who said that soft close doors are not mentioned in the contract as we never specified it. We questioned why she showed us these doors in the first place and her reply was that none of her clients wanted them anyway and we were the first ones again to ask for it. In any case she said would check her notes and get back to us. We're still waiting!
That was mistake number 2: Not having the time to read the contract properly and signing under duress to get the 20% discount.
For different reasons and delays aligning the tradespeople, the temporary connection they had promised never took place and we remained without water in the kitchen and cooking appliances for 4 weeks. By then we realised that there was no Project Manager and the two ladies we spoke to in their Bayswater office had no idea what was going on.
Lesson number 3: We quickly learned that we had to collect the various tradespeople mobile phone numbers and follow up the work ourselves.
At that point we were asked to make the final payment to Direct Kitchen as the kitchen was in. Glazier and stone mason would be paid directly by us.
Lesson number 4: We made full payment of the balance owing although work was still in progress.
After the stone benches were installed, we waited a whole week for the glazier to come and measure. As there was no glazier in sight, and after several phone calls to Direct Kitchens, we called the builder who organised for another glazier to come. Two weeks later, the glass turned up however one large piece had been cut too small and they had to take it back. It would take another 2 weeks for a new piece of glass to be cut and painted.
Yesterday 2 April 2014, the final piece of glass turned up, cut to size this time. As soon as it was put on the wall, we noticed that there was a slight difference in colour to the piece that had already been installed. We pointed it out to the installers but they both said that they weren't very good with colours. We doubted ourselves and let them finish their work and made the payment.
After looking at it for 2 days it is very clear that the colours are different, but we are so sick of the whole thing that we can't be bothered chasing them up.
There are several finishing touches required as in filling gaps around the flue, gaps between the glass and window, and fixing the tap installation in the laundry etc. which we will now do ourselves.
During this whole process, we haven't had one phone call from Direct Kitchens or from J or G to check that everything was OK or otherwise.
One thing we must admit Direct Kitchens were very good at: that was to phone us the day before a progress payment was due to make sure that we didn't miss that.
Lesson number 4: We should have withheld part of the final payment until ALL of the work was completed to our satisfaction.
Lesson number 5: The 20% discount is allegedly just a gimmick. It is a permanent feature of their pricing to allow pressure selling.
Hopefully our experience will save someone else from making the same mistakes and avoid the disappointment. The 2 bathrooms renovations that we had discussed with J will now have to wait until we find someone competent.
Approximate cost: $45,000
What a terribly frustrating, but alas all too common description of work gone wrong. I had similar problems with roofing in this way. Don't pay until you see the goods! Sorry to hear it, and hope others take note of this bad business practice. Thanks for you review.
We are in our 30th year in Business. I doubt we would still be in business if things were as bad as Patrick has expressed in this lengthy attack. Sometimes people who have a negative outlook in life seem to have things go wrong around them.
Stunning kitchen, terrific service right through from the consultant to the maintenance/finish person. All personnel were tidy, personable, and cleaned up well after each days work. The end result was of high quality with no need for follow up adjustments.
Approximate cost: $45k
It is now approximately 8 months since our new kitchen was installed by Direct Kitchens and we are exceptionally pleased with the overall preparation and completion of the work. All the tradesmen were very professional and expertly completed our kitchen on time and with minimum disruption. We are very impressed with the attention to detail with both the initial designer and the follow up technical advisor. Everything is of the highest quality and it is very functional and looks as beautiful today as when it was first installed.
The advice and ideas I got from the designer and especially the man who did the final measuring, was fantastic. The kitchen is the same size as my old one but it works better, looks better and is a joy to spend time in. During the planning process I was given lots of time to think, review and plan a kitchen that works for me. I was also given very practical advice about the most useful fittings.
Approximate cost: $23,000
I had a new kitchen put in and was taken by the great upfront service and promises. Direct Kitchens wasn't the cheapest quote I received but I chose them for the service they promised, as they put it "project management".
There was in fact no oversight of the project at all, let alone by a single person. I was the main contact point, had to chase up tradies, had to convince them when work remained outstanding by sending photos rather than them just sending someone around and the approach to securing the cabinetry was bizarre - overlapping masonite by less than 1cm meant that I then spent hours preparing the floor for tiling. I had in fact left instruction to move the masonite if required - it would have taken 1 second as it was not glued down.
The benchtop also was not finished appropriately and the accessories did not fit, and then had to later be adjusted.
The only time the company was interested in me was when they were chasing money and because they don't declare project management costs in the contract they have it over the company. I was told that the service I was provided didn't meet the normal standard of service provided. But refused to settle my outstanding balance accordingly.
Approximate cost: $24000
Sounds like a place to be avoided for sure. If you don't get the kitchen right it throws everything else off. Thanks for your review.
thanks
From Direct kitchens: The problem was with the clients drop in sink drainer supplied by the above client, it was a different size than the sink cut out template provided to the Stone mason from the sink manufacturer. The stone installer was willing to recut and polish the bench top however, after attempting to phone the client several times and sending 6 emails in an attempt to arrange a time to do so ,the client finally responded, and told the Stone Mason that they decided to take Direct Kitchens Production Managers original advice, and have the stainless steel draining board cut to match the sink. We had this done for the client.
The company then requested payment for all the Plumbing, electrical, plaster work and carpentry work which was completed totalling in excess of $5000 that had not been paid for.
We had a complete kitchen renovation done, and my wife and I couldnt be happier. From the moment John came out to design our new kitchen, until the Glass splashbacks went on, it was a completely satisfying experience. The tradies were professional and seemed to take alot of pride in there work. Our installer couldnt have been more helpful. He answered any questions I had, and his professionalism needs to be commended. I would not hesitate in recommending Direct kitchens to my friends. I thank you for a wonderful, functional kitchen. Now my wife is leaving me alone, Thanks.
Approximate cost: $24000
We had a complete new two pak kitchen installed and the planning from the beginning to the end was exceptional. The customer service was excellent, management of the design and installation was very professional and all issues were addressed efficiently. Staff were very proactive and reactive as required. Timelines were met and each tradesman followed the other to ensure no time was wasted and the job was completed as quickly as possible. The quality of the kitchen is excellent and we could not be happier. I would highly recommend Direct Kitchens Bayswater Victoria to anyone.
Approximate cost: $24,000
After visiting the Direct Kitchens Showroom and being impressed by the quality, we engaged the Company to replace our old kitchen, and have been extremely pleased with the entire job. Everything went like clockwork and there was minimal disruption to our lives as the tradesmen worked together to get the job quickly but meticulously we were treated with professionalism and courtesy by all the staff. We now have a beautiful and functional kitchen, especially designed for our needs, which was great value for money.
Approximate cost: $16,000
Direct Kitchens have been an enormous disappointment.
Design stage was ok, although we had to push pretty hard for what we wanted as against what the designer thought we should have. The real problems started after installation. When the overhead cabinets were installed, we noticed that the rangehood was out of alignment with the stovetop, shelves were installed damaged, a door handle was installed wonky etc. The bulkhead still needed screw holes plastering after the plasterer had installed it and the cornice, but they seemed to think that this was fine - I'd just have to employ a plasterer to complete the job that their 'tradesman' couldn't be bothered finishing. They even came out eventually and agreed that there were issues of their making, but then they seem to just want us to go away.
It has been 2 months now and they still refuse to return calls or emails. We've involved Consumer Affairs prior to going to VCAT. We still have boxes of stuff we can't unpack until this is resolved. Heartbreaking. We paid top dollar for a seamless professional service, and seem to have got cowboys.
Approximate cost: $15000
An update - when I rang them for details of the owner so I could complete the application to VCAT, eventually they came out again for another look. They had to re-make all the wall units for one wall. When they fitted them they were still about 1cm to long so they had to rout out the architrave around the door jamb to make them fit! I ended up patching up the screw holes myself. Then, when it was all finished (I wasn't game enough to try to get them to try again and fit some new door architrave) they asked me to delete or alter the above post on WOMOW, since I now must be happy!!. True story.
had full kitchen renovation ... new windows, walls out cupboards etc new whitegoods etc. Design stage was clunky and forced but the installation was great. Chris, Peter and the team were very professional, clean, courteous, conscientious and careful. The installation team was good at problem solving and providing clever solutions.
Approximate cost: $40,000
we purchased a entire kitchen and had it installed. The process was smooth although it took longer than stated. Always had someone to contact but there were many persons in voled and sometimes l didn't know who l was suppose to call.
Approximate cost: $15000.00
