Guppy is a very very quiet introverted person however he seems to deal with patients well and he's open to listen to you which is great too. I was assigned him for my son by Cabrini. Thankfully he was there because the midwives on whilst i was there would have held his progression back. also he was greast after when we brought our tiny little 4lbs home and we rang him a few times concerned. we got calls back which is more than i can say for most gps!

Approximate cost: $120

I have taken my girl to see dr guppy a number of times and every time he has found the problem, treated it and resolved the issue. The front desk receptionist are just wonderful and such caring people. Such a great clinic to be in with such beautiful caring staff. Recommend to anyone that has a child with any problems to go see Dr Des Guppy. Only thing was Dr Guppys personality was hard to pick at first but such a lovely caring man that is excellent at his job

Dr Guppy picked up a life threatening bowel obstruction in my baby at 12 hours old. We were rushed to the Royal Children's Hospital on his advice and his condition required surgery not long after. The staff at RCH were impressed by the early detection of his problem. We have seen Dr Guppy since for his 6 week check-up and were very happy with his approach and service.

When our little girl was born 6 weeks early, Des Guppy was assigned as her paediatrician. Her main problem was that she did not have the sucking reflex yet. Des seemed to take quite a conservative approach and there were times when we were a bit frustrated as he didn't seem to have the words to explain exactly why he was taking a particular line of treatment. His response was just that "this works in his experience" (but my husband and I always like to know why!). Anyway, his treatment did seem to work exactly as he said it would and after a couple of weeks, we were able to take home a healthy baby that was feeding from the bottle and later, the breast.

Through our maternal and childcare nurse, we later discovered that our daughter had a problem with one of her hips and were a bit annoyed that this wasn't picked up when she was in hospital or during her subsequent visit to Des. However other health professionals have told us that sometimes this problem doesn't present until later.

I took my 1 year old to see Des Guppy on two occasions. There were a few issues. General check up with my son's health and he was he was constantly getting sick with colds and his breathing seemed very heavy. I found Des Guppy umcomortable to be around. He said nothing, he explained nothing and on one occasion seemed disinterested when I was there - hence I cried when I left. I never went back to see him. I actually just think he is older and maybe tired of his job. That is how I felt anyway. Maybe others have had different experiences.
