Peter was very down to earth and approachable. His casual manner helped me have a very casual and easy birth, even though there were many complications and I ended up having a c-section. Peter was there all the way. And made ample time for me and my questions. Very professional and thorough. Would definitely use him again.

We have seen Peter on several occasions and he is a great guy. VERY down to earth and on the level. I would highly recommend Prof. Lutjen to anyone having fertility issues.

Huge fan, don't share the experience of the previous people who commented that he lacked the warm and fuzzy. Competent, caring, clever and cool. If you're looking for a great obstetrician, then you've found one.

The previous review is pretty accurate. Dr Lutjen is probably not for you if you are looking for lots of bedside manner, but I really liked his straight-forward approach. He doesn't hesitate to give his opinion with all the facts so it is easy to make an informed decision. He's very experienced and has the latest research knowledge. He talks at a pace so if you have questions you just need to jump in quickly when you get the chance!

I used him for fertility issues and he was just great. He operates from Monash IVF. He gives you lots of confidence that he knows what he is doing in this area.

Approximate cost: $190 first session about $100 after that

i think if you are to expect to pay this sort of $$$$.
he should take the time to at least spend a quality time with his patient.not wait for his patient to find the opportunity to jump at his pace and ask question.

If you are expecting warm and fuzzy you need to look elsewhere but I can highly recommend him. He's kind and empathetic but not gooey. And he does give an opportunity to ask questions - he just talks fast!

Choosing an obstetrician is a difficult and personal thing. Personally I had no idea of how to go about it but ended up choosing Peter Lutgen. He practises at Masada Hospital (and Sandringham I think). If you're looking for someone who wants to sit down for a chat every appointment and talk about how you're feeling, Peter is probably not the right choice. However, I found him to be excellent. Everything he says appears to be based on research and actual experience and I like his down-to-earth (if a little blunt) manner. For instance, I asked about what foods I should avoid and he said he'd never treated a single case of listeria in his 30 or so years of practise. Getting your hair dyed is ok too - "so long as you don't drink the stuff". Anyway, my pregancy progressed with the usual monthly then fortnightly appointments. Peter was always happy to answer my questions but didn't make a big song and dance about things.

At the 34 week appointment he noticed (just by eye) that I hadn't grown since the last appointment and suggested another scan be done. Sure enough, it confirmed his suspicions and my baby had pretty much stopped growing. On his advice, we made the decision to have a caesarean that day. He carried out the operation and everything was fine.

I'm very grateful that Peter was experienced enough to notice this problem and potentially avoid something drastic happening. Will use him again for our next one.

He also specialises in fertility problems - although I haven't used these services.
