5 reviews about Dr Robert Woodfield

I saw Dr Woodfield for my perinatal anxiety and PPD. I have seen many psychologists over my life, but none have had quite the impact he has had. I can honestly say that I don’t how I would have coped with having a baby without his guidance. He’s gentle, non-judgemental, helps you focus on what’s important, and reduce your anxiety. It wasn’t about trying to run through and address and understand everything that was happening to me, I need a lifetime for that. It was about bringing me to the right place to enable me to cope and even enjoy the birth of my child.
I felt compelled to write a review after reading a negative review from someone else. He is an older man, and he has many years experience specifically with psychology in obstetrics. It was comforting to know that nothing I said would be new or surprising to him. He takes a lot of notes. It meant that while I was talking, he’d reflect back on things I had said and draw connections. He must see many patients but I felt like I didn’t need to repeat everything again and again to him. Everyone has their own experience, but if you are in a place that you need help, don’t let another’s bad experience dissuade you from reaching out to him.

I can not recommend Robert highly enough. I had always suffered with anxiety but after the birth of my son I was suffering with severe PND and was suicidal. He saved my life. His approach, rationale, and support is second to none. I had about 10 sessions with him and still cannot believe just how much he helped me. I haven’t seen him in just under a year but I think about him often and think back to advice he gave and techniques he shared. On top of that his pricing is well worth the amazing service he provides, so it took away the stress of having to fork out a whole lot of money to see someone. As I was in such a bad place, despite his loaded schedule, he fit me in that week and stayed back after hours just to see me. Thank you Dr Woodfield!

Elderly man who answers calls and constantly types during sessions. Too preoccupied with capturing (inaccurate) session notes to make eye contact. No concept of modern movements in the field of psychology and trauma-informed practise. Well-priced, but not worth it if you're needing consistent support.

I have to comment on this. Elderly man... yes (not that it matters what his age is). In my experience (10 sessions with him), he answers calls and if they arent urgent he will return their call at a later time but if it is urgent he will take the call, which is 100% fine with me as im sure he did the same thing when i called him as i was suicidal and i dont know what would of happened if he didnt take my call. He types during sessions to capture all the information he needs to provide ongoing relevant support. He made eye contact with me and the information he is capturing may seem inaccurate to you & i actually thought the same thing at first but as time went on i saw exactly how important those details were in the grand scheme of things. He provided consistent support to me and was second to none. I understand that when seeing a psychologist you need to find one that fits with you and I have had some in the past that were great but just didnt click with me if that makes sense. Not bagging anything you have said, just wanted to give my point of view for others coming and looking for reviews.

I saw Dr Robert Woodfield in 2007 whilst going through Breast Cancer at the San Hospital. Haven't seen him for many years now. Nine years later I am so grateful to him for helping me and teaching me so much about life! I think about him so often. He was caring, gentle, absolutely non judgemental. He taught me that I didn't have to try to be tough, just to be me and go with the flow. He truly is a beautiful personality and if you go to him you can't help but think he's wonderful. I actually don't regret the experience of going through Breast Cancer. It's made me more grateful for my life. Thanks Robert!
