I signed up to Exetel as the had won awards and recommended by independent reviewers and aussie based so thought yeah lets do it. Big mistake. I enquired online and was getting phone calls daily to sign up. Eventually did. Then they ghosted me. My property had not been lived in for 6 months but was NBN ready, it had a box. After a week it still was not connected, everytime I called had to "wait 48 hours" to remotely check but I kept saying nothing has changed. They eventually organised a new NBN box thinking that was the issue, but I still has no NBN connection. Also, I received an email from Exetel that said "Kindly note that the NBN device is awaiting collection at the Post office therefore please kindly collect and connect it as advised in the below steps." I am not told what Post Office to go to or what to ask for to pick it up! Again another phone call and apparently thre girl "accidently" sent that email!
So again the same thing wait 48 hours for activation. Still would not send a technician. In the third week I gave them an ultimatium, give me an answer of what is going on in 24 hours or I disconnect. Never heard from them. So called and cancelled the service, even though I never had the service connected.
A couple of other things that were extremely disappointing from a customer service side:
One - When I signed up, I was told it was up to me to figure out if my BYO modem would work, they would not help me. The company I finally signed up to (thats for another "positive" review) first thing they asked, what modem I had and told me it would work (apparently its one of the top modems, dont know if they were just trying to sweeten me up).
Two - After every call they ask you to do a survey if you would reccommend Exetel. I noticed whenever I had an issue and was upset, they never asked me to take the survey, so being not accurate with their "customer service" info.
Took over three weeks and multiple phone calls and still would not send a technician out. The new company did it within a week. Oh, and the new NBN device Exetel sent me, was faulty, the old one works fine. So if they had just organised the technician when I asked, all this would have been avoided and maybe a different review.

Stay clear of these guys for NBN. To their credit, exetel hooked us up to the NBN without a hitch. But it was downhill from there. We signed up for a 50Mbps plan, FTTN, but rarely achieved more than 8Mbps at any time of day, often less than 1Mbps. Many, many calls to support. They answer quickly, are polite and aim to help but never fixed the problem. Also constant drop outs and we had difficulty streaming Netflix etc. Basically much worse than our previous ADSL connection. Also beware, if you use your own modem they won’t provide setup support. And they require 30 day’s notice to cancel. Changed to a new provider and the difference has been amazing. Cutover within 1 hour and We consistently get 40+ Mbps, even at peak times, with no dropouts so far. Avoid exetel at all costs.

I have been using Exetel for ADSL2+ Internet access and mobile telephony. The pricing is very competitive, the service is reliable and I find the downloadable usage widget very handy to keep track of usage. Their range of ancillary services such as email2fax, forums and online SMS is comprehensive and managed through a well-developed portal. I would highly recommend Exetel to anyone looking for a good ISP.

I have been an Exetel customer for around 7 years. In the earlier years I wouldn't recommend them to anyone due to the lack of support and fairly frequent outages.

However they have really picked up their game in the last few years, yet they have still kept their prices extremely competitive.

Now I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to ANYONE. They are an EXCELLENT ISP and I doubt very much you would be able to find a better deal.

I have been with these guys for at least 5 years. Not much fuss. Every now and again forced on to another plan, first more expensive, then cheaper, then bit more. That's life, they are still cheaper than most and now provide phone support (it was previously very limited). Through their help I've recently gone onto a faster speed (not quite ADSL2 yet due to the limitations of a rim connection / limited available exchange ports). Overall, I'm happy to stick with them for now. T1-50 Plan. $48 per month. 50GB Peak, Unmetered off peak (1am-9am).

This company is a list of just a few possible providers for cable network used by opticomm. Opticomm were very helpful, Exetel were not - The service was never able to be connected at our house and Exetel was very reluctant to send anyone out to see why. After 2 months of calling to see what can be done and a bill of $234 for a service we never got, we finally convinced them to cancel our account and reimburse us the money, certainly not good service or good management to resolve the issue!!!!
