Training at fitness first exceeded my expectations. Staff were knowledgeable and helpful, equipment was clean and state of the art, and I enjoyed learning how to use it.

Group exercise classes were particularly helpful, offering amongst other things Zumba, Body Combat, Yoga, Boxing and Body Pump. Zumba was highly enjoyable, being run by a qualified dance instructor who was able to blend funky dance moves with exercise.

The other standout for me was Body Combat, which is structured very similarly to old Thai Bo classes I used to participate in at another city gym. These classes really helped me develop speed, balance and coordination, featuring martial arts kicks and punches set to upbeat music.

The only slight negative is that I've heard it can be difficult to cancel your contract if you want to leave Fitness First for any reason. Others have advised that Fitness First can be difficult and rather inflexible to deal with under these circumstances.

The faculties are excellent and the classes are fun! I highly recommend Bodycombat, Bodyjam and Cycle classes. I found Ab Blast class the hardest to do and only did it once! But, if you are game – go for it. The class instructors are very good too. Overall, a pretty good experience for me.

i've always been curious as to what it's like up at melbourne central, with the windows out there's usually at least one person on the treadmill i notice from the foodcourts! (i always feel guilty eating there)

Excellent facilities in a incredibly convenient environment HOWEVER the customer service is absolutely terrible, it's enough to put you off ever going there. Staff are absolutely pushy and annoying. When I went there for the first time just to take a look they harassed me and kept trying to get me to sign up despite my repeated refusals. They are very persistent and also try to call you for hours on end, as if pestering you at their fitness center was not enough.

I found my fitness first experience met, but didn't exceed my expectations. As they are in such a central location, they often get so busy at peak times that there are no lockers available, and often cues for the showers, toilets and equipment. Having said that, they do have state of the art equipment with great views over Melbourne Central shopping centre, and the staff are very helpful and friendly, if not a little harrased at busy periods, which i think is understandable. Also the elevators can get extremely busy (which is the only way into the club) so it can take AGES to get in/out

Approximate cost: $80 p/m

Their sales people are absolutely pushy. If you just visit and want to enquire, they are so pushy. And once they get your details, they keep calling you to sign up. They are very close to harassment y when it comes to get you to sign up.
They also provided incorrect information when I enquired on how to freeze my membership for a period of time. The information was incorrect and as a result I could not put my membership on hold in time before I go overseas.
