Locally owned - you know your money is going back into the community rather than to an over-seas owned company. Lots of really good specials. Offer rainchecks if something is not available. Always have plenty of checkouts open - unlike the other big two supermarkets. Offer a range of products and have labels on the shelves to show which products are Aussie owned.

The prices are often cheaper than the neighbouring Coles, and the bakery section has a very wide range of breads baked instore. However the store does need a makeover, or refurbishment as it is all looking very tired and run down.

Recently the fresh produce manager went out of his way just to accommodate my request for ONE beetroot. So many people simply want a smaller quantity of fresh produce; my main reason is that I hate to waste food. Perry, the produce manager, was polite and understood my reasons. As I said to his store manager, Randall, it's staff like Perry who make you want to shop at a particular store. Well done Foodland, Castle Plaza.

Approximate cost: $.50c
