I appreciate a locum service is potentially a very busy operation, however I am surprised and disappointed that when you explain you have a sick baby of 12 months old who is pretty darn sick (but doesn't seem critical) you can be still waiting for a CALL BACK 5 hours later! No call to confirm the symptoms or see whether the condition had deteriorated, nor was there a call to ascertain a bit more information to help the doctor prioritise their patients for the evening...nothing, nil, nada. When I called to ask whether this is a normal occurence I was told "busy night" Isn't there a universal understanding amongst the medical fraternity that a sick infant generally moves their way to the front of the list, but behind critical injuries and illnesses, of course.
In future, I would perhaps try another locum service & see whether they are more compassionate towards sick babies, otherwise I will be forced to add to the unrelenting pressure on PMH.
