A hidden little gem in the heart of gold creek. Quite expensive but worth it for delicious fine dining. Cute little location but book ahead!

We went to The Green Herring with another couple, and despite the deliberately run-down looking exterior it's quite nice inside, and feels very intimate. The food itself was pretty good, with the desserts being a bit of a highlight while the entrees on the day were a little unprepossessing. I would go again.

I have a particular soft spot for the Green Herring, as hubby and I had our wedding reception there over 10 years ago. Many of my important family events have been held at this restaurant. It is intimate and cosy and very old worldy - I love it!

Most recently, hubby and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary dinner at the Green Herring. Both the prawn entree and pork main were delicious and melt in the mouth - couldn't fault either dish in any way. The only disappoinment for me the whole night was the removal of their signature Chocolate Profiteroles from the menu (after 25 years) - this was always my fall back dessert here. But their other desserts are still delicious too - make sure that you save room.

Plus, you always receive some handmade chocolates on the house at the end of the your meal - it is these sort of little special touches that make the Green Herring unforgettable.

I come here for a romantic evening with my other half. Stepping inside removes you completely from wherever you were 20 minutes ago. The food is fantastic, the staff are lovely, and it's a small cosy place that seems perfect on a cold night. There's nothing super special about it, but there's something about it that always makes me come back.

This is a bit of a trek from the centre of Canberra, but for an rustic dining experience that is a little bit out of the ordinary, I would recommend it. The food is quite good - most meals were of a high standard. But the ambiance is what makes it. The log fire heats up the "shed" in winter and the staff make you feel very much at home.

I have been a regular to the Green Herring for about the past 10 years. During this time, the business changed hands but to taste the food, one would not know that there was any difference. I have a favourite dish that is generally not on the menu but whenever I book ans ask if they will do this for me - they do! The food is always of an exceptional standard. The Green Herring could be summarised as fine dining in a relaxed atmosphere.
