The town of Gwalia began in the late 1800's when a young Herbert Hoover (23)(an US president) was the mine manager of the Son's of Gwalia Mine. His home is now a B and B run together with the large museum. Audio equipment is also available to wander around the nearly deserted town. A large open pit gold mine now operates there instead of the underground mines
