I got my hair done in the King St Head Studio the other day for the first time. They did an amazing job with my colour and cut! I had Ash and Mandy . Really good experience. Pricey, but the outcome was great!

Worst hair salon experience, will never go back, I paid so much money, which would have been fine if I got what I paid for, I left feeling terrible and worst then I started, I didn't even get the colour I asked for, the colouring was so patchy that it looked like I tried colouring my own hair. I had to return to get it fixed, when I returned they were so rude. the end result is still not what I wanted, especially for the price I paid. I recommend people not going to head studios.

I went to head studio from recommendations from friends, unfortunately my experience wasn't positive. I was met by a rude colour stylist with an attitude to match which was very uncomfortable as this is the person who will be colouring my hair. After 30 minutes of other staff members and the stylist talking about me in a not so soft tone so I can hear, I wanted to leave. I was crashed into by a colourist and the trolley, and barked at to confirm my colour choice and then move to the basin. After this fun filled hour I ended up with green/grey brown hair and was in tears. The staff were true to form and were put out and angry that I wasn't happy with the colour and stated "you don't need to cry about it, it can be fixed" after another 2 hours with multiple attempts at toners, and still in tears at the service and attifude from this staff, I left. After being advised I would receive a phone call to see how my hair was going, to which I have never received. I have never had an experience like this one at head studio. This salon pretends to stand up with the best in the country, but it's seriously lacking in all areas. Keeping looking for another salon.

The location and the hype would suggest that this is one of THE salons to go to in Perth. Some of the stylist / colourists have won awards so I'm sure there is some talent there. But I found the experience to be horrible and painfully slow. I had an appointment when they open at 10am. I turned up at 9.55 usually, as did the other clients with appointments first up. Trouble is, there are only two chairs and a small space to wait in (despite the salon being HUGE). So one or two people end up standing and feeling awkward. You are offered a complimentary head and shoulders massage with a tone. You get shunted all over the salon - to the back for a consultation, upstairs for colour, somewhere else for toner, downstairs for a cut. The staff who shampooed my hair was surly rude. They will try to sell you products in every corner of the salon. By far the worst part was how long it takes. I have fairly short, easy hair and a cut and colour took about 3 and a half hours. At other salons it's an hour and a half. Your stylist will be double-booked so they leave your colour on too long and try to talk you into treatments so you don't get angry about waiting while the stylist attends to someone else. My hair cut and colour ended up costing nearly $300 for a simple cut and a few foils. What a complete waste of money.

Head studio has got to be one of the worst "upscale " hair dressers I have every been to. A simple trim of some curls turned into all of them being lopped off and an ugly bowl cut. A picture was given as a guide and the hairdresser did what staff felt like not what was asked. More than this a mans trim should not take almost two hours to complete. The hairdresser thought it appropriate to do two people at once. I know people read these reviews and think what a angry person ! But I wrote this to sincerely warn people don't do it to yourself, hair is such and important statement to the way you look and feel - don't risk these people you will regret it. Sure hair grows back but who needs to look ugly for another 6 months till it grows back .... JUST DON'T DO GO TO HEAD STUDIO

Head Studio is quite an experience! The building itself is lovely and has an exposed warehouse feel with exposed pipes and beams. You do a lot of moving - waiting chair at the front, waiting chairs near the coffee bar, cutting room, colouring room (upstairs), different washing stations. The staff are young, vibrant and seem to love their job. Don't feel you have to dress up - jeans and a t-shirt would fit right in as would tattoos, green hair or multiple piercings. That said, the staff might be young and funky but they're happy to cater to a more mature, conservative client. You are offered a complimentary head and shoulders massage, tea or coffee, cold water etc. After an initial consultation you are taken away to have your cut and colour done. you might be handed around several staff members, all I came into contact with were pleasant and cheerful. I had a fantastic cut, best in years, and I love the colour too. Be careful of the upsell - "Shall we put a treatment in?" means "We will be charging you for this" and you might come back to your chair to find several expensive products waiting to be spruiked. It is very expensive, but all costs are listed on the website and it is cheaper and 300 times better than other salon. I have terrible hair but they actually made me feel happy about it when I left which is nothing short of miraculous. Expect a cut and colour to take around 3 hours (possibly more if you have very long / thick hair). All in all a fabulous, indulgent experience. Expect relaxed but thoroughly attentive, not posh and stuffy.
