1 review about J & G Parker Builders

My insurance company engaged these guys to do some work after our laundry was flooded late last year. They were prompt with their initial response, quickly coming to review the task at hand and determined that the root cause was not covered by the insurance and would need to be fixed before the damage inside could be repaired.

Several months later after battling to find a roofer that actually wanted some work, it came time to get John back to finish the task at hand.

I had to do a bit of chasing up in order to lock in a time to come back, but it was eventually settled on.

Upon arrival, the two young lads that were sent to do the work wasted no time in coming in, having a look at the required task and getting stuck in. They also wasted no time in using some colourful language to describe their antics on the previous weekend - thankfully my wife wasn't home or I would have been quite annoyed by this. They did what needed to be done quickly and then advised they would get the boss to arrange for a painter and plasterer if required.

I was told I'd be contacted by these tradesmen as required to arrange a time to come back and finalise the repairs.

This is pretty much where things deteriorated. I waited almost two weeks to be contacted before chasing up with the builder again. He told me he'd chase it up and get back to me. Again I waited and again I had to chase the builder .

In the meantime, I discovered from our cleaner that a painter had turned up unannounced, pretty much barged in as though everything was pre-arranged and slapped up a very rough coat of paint.

When I eventually spoke to the builder I made it clear that I was not impressed by this tactic.

To his credit, John came out personally and inspected the work done by the painter, apologised for the way it had been handled and arranged for a different painter to attend and do the job properly.

The end result was that was finally have a repaired laundry that we are happy with. In a nutshell, the workmanship was mostly OK (aside from the first painter who was sub-contracted), but the communication and follow up left a bit to be desired. I think the fastest communication came when it was time for me to pay the bill (insurance excess). There was certainly no time wasted in getting that to me.

Would I pro-actively choose these guys for a job? Probably not. Should I be unfortunate enough to need another insureance claim, I wouldn't be too annoyed if these guys were sent out by our insurer again.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'll be looking for a builder to do some under house water damage/maintenance soon, so I appreciate being steered away before I have a bad experience.
