I had just arrived in Melbourne and was looking to convert my overseas Driving License to a Victorian one. A family friend asked me to do some research on WOMO, which is how I came to contact Aza from JaTamer Driving School. I found her prices to be reasonable - in total I had 2x 1 hour lessons at $55 each, and a 3x 1 hour Lessons + Drive Test at $300 = $410 total.

For the past 1.5 months, Aza has been very patient in guiding me with the use of an Automatic car, and with getting accustomed to Victorian road rules. She was honest in her assessment of my driving skills, and had confidence in my abilities even when I was nervous myself! I am grateful that she was always calm when teaching me, and never scolded even when I made stupid mistakes.

With Aza's help, I passed my driving test (first time pass!) today at Bundoora VicRoads! A great big THANK YOU to Aza :)

A waste of time and money

After trying out the $150 package (3 lessons), I'd never recommend JaTamer to anyone. I signed up for a package straight away because of the good reviews in WOMO but came out of it very frustrated and disappointed. At first I thought how professional the company was, i.e. sending me an e-mail to confirm etc, but I was wrong.

Note that before writing this review I thought I should try out a different driving school just to give me a comparison. After I signed up to a different drive school, it just confirmed how poor the service and lessons were at JaTamer Driving School.

For one, the scheduling was terrible, not to mention unprofessional. They were completely unreasonable in terms of where to meet me. Firstly, I don't have a car and I was expected to take a train and tram to Carlton VicRoads, which takes me about 1 hour each way to get there, only to have my lesson cancelled. I do understand the instructor wasn't feeling well, but they didn't even give me notice. At least to call me in advance and give me a heads up to tell me they were unwell, rather than me turning up and completely waste my time. What is frustrating is that I didn't get any compensation whatsoever. Didn't offer to pay for my public transport fare when it took me 2 hours to and from to get to Carlton VicRoads. It might be easy for some people but I work from home so time is very valuable to me.

After comparing the instructor at JaTamer to a different driving instructor in a different school, I realized how they teach in a very condescending and negative manner. At one lesson, I was made to step out of the car on a windy very hot day just to show to me how bad I parallel parked. It just made me feel worse about myself and my driving. It was horrible experience.

Teaching in any field should encourage confidence in the student. Obviously, students will require correction when they make an error, but treating them in a condescending way does not encourage learning.

The smell of cigarettes in the car as well is very off putting. I really don't understand how JaTamer has so many good and positive reviews on WOMO.

I regret buying a package deal upfront as I didn't learn or gain anything. I'd say to start off with a one off lesson before committing to a package because their teaching style is not for everyone.

Approximate cost: $150

I would not recommend Jatamer driving school for those who like to stick to a schedule and not have their plans changed last minute multiple times.

I decided to choose Aza because of the overwhelming positive response I have read here on Womo. Being confident, I made the decision to purchase a package with her which requires a full upfront payment. Despite my confidence and the positive responses here on Womo, I was very disappointed with the level of service Aza provided. The lessons were fine once it commenced, but Aza made scheduling and communicating difficult due to her tardy response time.

Here are some examples
- Continuous rescheduling the day before the lesson, I twice confirmed 3 lessons with her before my test 2 weeks ahead of time letting her know my schedule was starting to pick up and she rescheduled them the night before into 2 x 1.5 hour lessons instead of the 3 x 1 hour lessons I had planned initially, I had no choice but to accept because of such short notice.
- Lack of responsiveness until she needs to communicate with you, not responding to questions which were time sensitive until the last minute (these were questions which could have been answered ahead of time), giving me no room to make a alternative ahead of time.
- The talk is good but delivery is poor, I was told (after rescheduling) that she would be able to take me through all the routes within my testing area because the lessons were longer, but few days later she told me they were 45 - 60 minutes, making them virtually impossible to complete in the 3 hours of lessons i had left.

Because of her poor organisational skills I was left frustrated and without an instructor 3 working days away from my driving test. To add on top I was charged a $50 fee to cancel my package because of her lack of timeliness and responsiveness.

The experience I imagined and the actual experience I had could not be further apart. For those who are considering using JaTamers, I would recommend buying one off classes before committing completely. Had I not have paid upfront for the whole bundle, I believe Aza may have treated me differently.

Thanks Aza for being patient and guiding me throughout the process. Highly recommended instructor as she gives you the confidence you need to be a first time drive test passer. Joo

just thought i share my thoughts as we had a similar story as many others have discribed..all i can say this company is operating on true merits,they put their heart and soul for others,no gread or force just a great /nice/friendly human being.thank you aza from myself ron and shirly.keep it yup you guys deserve a 5 star and more.

AMAZING AZA!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

I arrived here in Melbourne a couple of months ago and was on the look out for a drive instructor. I found Aza on womo and the reviews convinced me to contact her. And I'm so glad I did that. I generally don't write reviews but this one is an exception for two reasons:
1. Aza totally deserves this acknowledgment/appreciation for the excellent work that she is doing.
2. I want others to find her. She is the best thing that can happen to anyone who wants to learn to drive! She turned me from a non-driver to a driver in just a few sessions.

Aza is the best instructor I've met (having tried a few others in the past). She is methodological, professional and lends you the confidence from day one. She adapts to the learners style which is a very helpful trait because driving can't be taught in a cookie cutter style. I am a process driven person and like to learn techniques and then implement them. Aza was very supportive and drew diagrams and wrote me step-by-step notes for parking etc. This was very helpful for me.

The most important thing about Aza is that you can trust her completely to look after you. She is the right combination of lending you autonomy and the same time ensuring you are safe. She has a calm demeanour and is never intimidating. She is always alert and makes for a GREAT friend!!

Our driving sessions were never boring or stressful. They were always enjoyable and it felt like I was catching up with a friend! :)
I wish Aza and her business much success in the future.

Aza is the one of the most professional human beings that I've come across. She knows her job very well and can turn a non-driver into a safe and sound driver in just a matter of few sessions. I was a tad nervous at the beginning of my driving test but her presence was reassuring and her calm voice was Godsend. I highly recommend her if you want to get your licence without any problems in the first attempt.
