Jim fully replaced around 65m of timber fence around my property within 4 days, and his work did not disappoint! I was impressed by the very high standard of his workmanship. He was friendly and easy to talk to. He didn’t leave a speck of rubbish on my property. He just got on with the job and did it very well. My experience with Jim was great. I’m a happy client.

Where do we start!!
In 2016 Jim Christie commenced our fence after quoting in excess of $12k for the work. He asked for a substantial deposit to commence work.
It took a further 6 months and further monies deposited into his account and still work was not completed and what work was completed was to a shoddy standard.
We questioned him on several occasions and asked for works to be completed to a suitable standard, that’s when the relationship turned sour.

From there Jim turned from a friendly grandfatherly figure to a narcissist argumentative belligerent abusive contractor.

We struggled to get works finished exhausting the full cost of the works.

We demanded he come and pull the whole fence down and to refund monies.

He removed fence and promised to refund monies as per initial quote.

TODAY 2019 we still have not received full refund, various communication started with him promising to refund all monies, there after conversations have turned Very ABUSIVE even after we offered Jim a payment plan which he has not honoured.

My Phone is full of abusive text messages when I have requested payment. PLUS the abusive phone calls I have encountered with the ongoing LIES.
Lies after lies.

We had to commence work with another contractor and fork out a further $12k plus to complete works, however in doing so our new contractor took 2 days to complete all works.

Hopefully as many residents of CAIRNS see this message and DO NOT engage any services from JIM CHRISTIE.

BEWARE he’s a piece of work. Just not good work.

Jim Christie quoted us $6000 to move our fence and make it higher. Upon doing the quote he asked for a $4000 deposit prior to starting and said once received he would start the following week. We paid our deposit and he gave a start date for the following week, our job was apparently next on the list.

However he never turned up. We waited a couple days and contacted Jim. he apologised and said the last job ran late and would be there by the end of the week. Again he didn't turn up. again he had a running late excuse.

This continued on every time we contacted him every few days asking where he was and every time the excuse was different. In the end he starting contradicting all his excuses. Jim caught himself out in his own lies.

After 3 months of no show by Jim Christie. I had to demand our money back and even this was an extremely difficult task. I had to fight hard for OUR money and it took a long time to get our money back . It was very time consuming and stressful.

Please be careful if you wish to engage this person Jim Christie Fencing and DO NOT make the same mistake we did and pay up front. I know I will never make that mistake again.

The proprietor of this business quoted us $3862.55 for pool and rubbish bin fencing a year ago.

When the quote got eventually approved, he asked for $3500 upfront deposit. Since he came recommended by a licensed tradie, body corporate approved this advance.

He then took the money and used it for his own purposes. All follow ups over next few months were met with lies and excuses. We eventually found out that he did the same with another body corporate.

The tradie that recommended him managed to recover our and the other body corporate's money.

Since his quote was the only one left approved, we tried to get him to finish the job. He got as far as ordering the material that was paid through someone else. However, when the proprietor came to install it, it transpired he had disregarded instructions and provided a fence that HE wanted, NOT the one we did.

We are now forced to get new quotes, arrange a new body corporate meeting and new votes. The motion may not get approved again.

This business cost us valuable time and money over the past year, possibly also the fence. Also the supplier as the fence had to be returned.

AUGUST 2018 UPDATE: an investigation of this business by the QLD Building and Construction Commission found this contractor to be unlicensed and an infringement notice was issued for it ending up installing the unwanted pool fence since it was difficult for our committee to go through the approval process again. Aside from the wrong fence, the finished work left a lot to be desired.

I DO NOT recommend this business to anyone. If you do want to deal with it, DO put every detail of your requirement in writing AND add drawings/photos. DO PAY for the material yourselves. DO NOT pay ANYTHING until the job if fully completed.
