Kalamata is in a great location amongst olive groves, it has lovely views and its a modern restaurant with nice waiting staff. Have been there before and really enjoyed it so expectations were very high. Its obviously a very popular place as it was booked to capacity. Our $22 Tasting Plates (3 of them) were pre-prepared and left unrefrigerated for too long. The bread was stale and the salami was sweating and brown. The Chef/manager was quite rude to us so our dining experience was not only ruined but we were at risk because we'd eaten food that was off. The bill was paid and a good tip left for the waitresses.

Approximate cost: $28

This is set in the olive groves overlooking Swan Bay between Queenscliff and Drysdale. It appears to be a fairly near venture and offers a good menue and good local wine list. there is a very good tastings plate on offer and a range of smaller meals available. Worth the visit just for the pleasure of the view.

Approximate cost: $25

A shop just opened next to the Cafe this past weekend. Looks like more items are being added to the grove's range of products.

Went to Kalamata for mums birthday yesterday. Of the group of 5 of us we ordered 3 Tasting Plates knowing from previous experience they are delicious. Unfortunately, they had been pre-prepared and left unrefrigerated to the point the salami was discoloured, sweating and tasted bad. We raised this with the waiter staff and more salami came out. The colour was better but the taste was still not right. The salami was the worst part but the rest of the tasting plate also lacked its usual zing. The side bread on the plate was also stale. The chef/manager offered to take $5 from the cost of each $22 tasting plate. He offered no explanation for the poor quality except to say the suppliers in Portarlington may have changed their recipe. We never tasted the olive oil as bread was not brought to the table. It was a full house so maybe quality suffered because of that. Salads were nice and so were the wines. They missed the mark if they were aiming to please.
