The quality of the meat is great, there is nothing special about the Souvlakia, but the service was super quick and their chips where awesome

My family and I were so excited to try Kalimera's souvlakia, only to be terribly disappointed with the service and quality of food. Not only was the kitchen an absolute mess, the meat was burned and the dips we ordered tasted off! A few days after leaving the restaurant, we coincidentally spoke to an ex -employee of Kalimera and were shocked to hear that the staff at kalimera collect dips left over by customers and re-use them for future customers. As well as this, they have had incidents with rats and cockroaches in the kitchen. I have been so put off and would not recommend this restaurant to my worst enemy!

Amazing! Located in the hub of Greek restaurants in Melbourne's south east... And stands right out! This is defiantly one to look out for. I had the pork gyro... The paprika seasoning makes all the difference

I recently dined in at Kalimera with partner and 2 kids aged 8 and 5, after a (Greek) friend raved about their souvlaki. We arrived shortly after 6pm on one of those stinking hot Melbourne nights and *just* beat the early dinner rush. The restaurant had the vibe of a big, happy Greek family eating together - everyone seemed to know someone else. We ordered 2 platters, one pork and one chicken, both $16 each. Each platter promised souvlaki meat, bread, dip/sauce and salad... perfect for sharing.
First the good: all the food (especially the pork) was delicious, the bread was fluffy and hot and we were surprised to find chips hidden under the meat (these were not mentioned when I asked what was included on the platters) so the kids were stoked. The homemade sauce and dips were similarly packed with yummy goodness. Everything was clearly very fresh and the serves were a reasonably sized for the price and quality and just enough for the 4 of us.
And the things I think they could improve on? While there were staff on the floor when we walked in, no-one acknowledged us... we bustled to the only free table in the place once we worked out no-one was going to. The music added to the atmosphere but was loud... really loud especially as we were under a speaker. The tables are huge re-purposed cable spindles and look really cool but teamed with the chairs aren't very comfortable esp for kids. OK if you plan to dash in and out for a quick meal though. The chicken was yummy but there was a lot of floppy skin amongst the meat. The 'salad' on the platters consisted of onion on one and on the other tomato slices and onion... not the salads you'll see beside where you order so that was a bit disappointing.
All in all great for a quick bite but could be a great spot with a few tweaks and a little more love from the staff.

Approximate cost: $16 or $8 per souvlaki

Simply the best souvlaki in Melbourne. The service is fantastic, the meat is great, value is good and you really cannot ask for more.
Small portions, great attention to deal and the Kalimera sauce is superb.

Thanks, I've been looking for a souvlaki place in Melb's east. Will give it a try.

Recently came from a holiday in Greece, and loved the souvlaki they sell in Greece so we decided to try Kalimera when it opened. Let me say that my husband absolutely loves the souvlaki's they make and are very similar to the ones they sell in Greece. He goes all the time. Well done guys

Approximate cost: $15

Had heard many good things about this place so tried it a few weeks ago. I absolutely loved my souvlaki! Only available in chicken or pork so no lamb which is a little disappointing. I'm not a huge fan of pork but have been told by friends it's excellent. Will try next time. Always really busy!

Approximate cost: $10

Heard great things about this place so decided to take a Greek friend of mine here for lunch! There was a bit of a wait and line to get in, which appeared promising though we had to get our food take away as there was no available tables! I didn't mind my souvlaki though it was a little soggy, my friend wasn't impressed, he thought it was too pricey and lacked flavour.
