From Vine to Wine
Kiltynane Wines is based on the Bellarine Peninsula of Victoria’s west coast. Our home base “Basil’s Farm”, overlooks Ramsar listed wetlands to the Marine Sanctuary of Swan Bay and across to Queenscliffe.
Our Cellar Door is open for wine tastings and sales from October to end of June on Sat/Sun and Public Hollidays. Enjoy the views from the garden while you partake of a glass of wine and one of our produce platters. Our wines are made from grapes sourced in our region and made by hand to please the discerning wine lover. Our wines include Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Rose and Chardonnay.
Basils Farm was first settled in 1876. Early on it was used to build and launch timber carrying barges for carting timber to Melbourne. In later years, it became the site of a local primary school, the brick chimney of which forms part of the homestead. Then at a later time again, it was the home of Basil Halsall, local cycling hero and winner of the 1953 Sun Tour. Cadel Evans continues on the local cycling tradition to this day.
Battered by salt winds but complimented by unique geology from red sandy loam over red ironstone pebbled clay to deep chocolate loam over clay, the wine produced here is known for it’s structure, perfume and silky tannins. Viticulture is kept simple with organic and biodynamic practices used to enhance soil biology, plant health and minimize the need for other inputs. We have two quite individual blocks on site and other small blocks off site.
We follow true artisan winemaking – the grapes picked in small batches by hand in the cool of the morning. They are fermented using indigenous yeasts in small open pots - the reds, individually hand plunged or piedtage, the whites fermented in barrel - then matured custom French oak with minimal other intervention. These natural ferments are great for wine lovers who normally suffer from the side effects of commercial yeasts and inputs. â?¨
We specialize in small project wines using Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and some Shiraz, tailored to the adventurous wine lover – to us, our wines are as much art as food. They are about stories - stories that evolve from every day of the vineyard year.

Kiltynane Wines is based on the Bellarine Peninsula of Victoria’s west coast. Our home base “Basil’s Farm”, overlooks Ramsar listed wetlands to the Marine Sanctuary of Swan Bay and across to Queenscliffe.
