I sent my car for service and told them that the battery light keeps flashing. I asked them to look into it. They called me later and said I have to replace the whole alternator and it will cost $400. I asked them to check may be it's the regulator only that needs cleaning or replacement. But they said nope - just replace alternator. So I sent it elsewhere and found out it was the regulator only not working. replacement cost: $140
