This delightful restaurant features French decor, French staff and French-style cooking for a menu that is firmly French-Australian. I applaud this direction. By removing some of the high-end dishes the menu becomes quicker and easier as well as more accessible to the average Aussie palate and to the kids. I went for the kangaroo. I was pre-warned (great idea) that it would not be cooked beyond medium-rare. No matter, I wanted it blue. It was perfect. My partner had the Pork Medallions which were excellent. As much as the restaurant catered for vegetarians (essential in Belgrave), there were no options for fish mains. The wine list was more than adequate in length with impeccable choices to enhance their exquisite menu. I had an excellent strong beaujolais with my main and was so glad to be able to choose a great dessert wine with my Clafoutis (20 minute wait) which was, again, perfect. You might think that an establishment offering a classy cuisine would not cater to children but the Maitre'D showed as much or more attention to kids at the next table. Service overall was absolutely top-notch with staff genuinely friendly through a manner that was extremely efficient and well polished. This is so rare in Australia where our accounts-driven economy cannot reconcile the value of the human element. Mains were around the $35 dollar mark. Entree & Dessert about half that. Some mains have minimal veg which may require a side for $8.50 which has more than enough for two people. So overall you might pay 20-30% more than a pub meal then spend more on the drinks than you would have (just because food & drinks are so good) for a dining event that's twice as good.
