My partner and I were looking to buy a house recently listed in Craigmore by Steve Jacobs. Our finance was pre-approved as explained to Steve and I asked him what we need to do to have a look through the house. He suggested that we fill in a "Letter of Offer" but to make sure our offer was the best offer we could make as he had already had offers over the asking price (even though we made the offer one day after it was listed on realestate.com.au). I was ensured that we would be placed "On top of the list" if we did so. The offer ($20,000 above the asking price) was made on a Friday morning.

I called Steve the following Monday morning and asked if he had any updates. During our brief chat I had to remind him who I was and what we had discussed the previous Friday morning. He said, "Why would you make an offer on a place you haven't seen yet?!" My immediate response was, "Because you suggested that we did so late last week!" His tone changed slightly thereafter and he said that we are still on top of the list and that an open inspection might happen that weekend. I was then assured that I'd be notified by email with the details.

That Thursday morning I saw that an open inspection was coming up on the Saturday. I checked my emails and saw no correspondence from Steve or LJ Hooker. By this stage I was seething and feeling very unimportant. My working career involves two decades in Retail and I have owned my own business for two years - I understand the importance of good customer service. Due to the lack of the above mentioned I attained the Directors phone number, 'Benjamin'.

Benjamin didn't take my initial call so I left a voicemail message with my details. Two and a half hours later he returned my call. I explained to him that I'm not one to complain typically, but my partner and I were unhappy with the way Steve handled our enquiry and I asked if we can deal with someone else instead. I was met with an onslaught of excuses and a fifteen minute barrage of reasons why they have provided poor customer service. Many of the things he verbally sprouted astonished me including, "You're not a serious enquiry to us, even though you've made a letter of offer $20,000 above the asking price". "I'll give you some advice, have zero conditions attached to any offers you make. We have investors from China and the Eastern Seaboard who buy places site unseen and pay cash." "We are too busy to get back to most of our potential buyers, so that's probably why Steve hasn't gotten back to you." "In recent times our office has become flat out busy - sometimes we have 180+ enquiries per day. But we're not going to put on a full time staff member just to get back to those less important people."

This agency and its staff are an absolute farce. You are not important to them; at all. The worst customer service experience we have ever had. In fact, we have decided to put the idea of buying an investment property on hold until the housing boom slows and these "Real Estate Agents" come back down to reality.

In summary, even if LJ Hooker Craigmore have your dream home listed, find one elsewhere to buy. Do yourself a favour.
