I really like this place. It is very genuine. From the highly hospitable, professional yet genuinely happy and friendly waiters, to the atmosphere of the very parisian surrounds and decor, to the rustic french menu. The food is what I would call provincial/simple traditional french, but it is done very well and servings are reasonably hearty.

A very cute little french bistro on brunswick st, just situated off the busy bustling strip.
The atmosphere at Madame SouSou is lovely. It has all the charms of a classic little parisian bistro. From the music, furniture, wall decor, waiters/waitresses, menu offerings.
Unfortunately where it is a little lacking, is the execution of the delights hinted on the menu. My dining companion had the $25 Biftek (200g rump steak with bearnaise & french fries). Whilst properly cooked it was served in a manner which was rustic to the point of being careless. As for my $26 Poussin Du Jour (swordfish with dill potatoes & red pepper sauce) whilst again nicely done there was nothing particularly memorable about it and the serving was a little small.
I am not making any complaints against Madame SouSou, because it is a nice place with nice people with reasonable food. But it is important to set expectations. Here you will get reasonably priced french classics executed well and in a slightly rustic manner at bistro prices.
It is recommended for lunch. Not for inspired or modern brunch style dining though, unless you are looking for a traditional homely experience.

I come here for breakfast as often as i can, but because the Pear Perdu is so good, i've never tried anything else! Such a nice place to dine, If you like one of the pieces hanging from the wall, it's yours for a price. Service is quick and precise, the staff are friendly and did i mention the pear perdu is amazing?!

This is the place we go every Saturday! we love the breakfast menu and tried all of it and my all time favourites are the "Croque Madame" and "Funghi A La Parisienne", the quality is fresh, service and ambience are impeccable and above all their Coffees are to die for. on some occasions we tried the lunch and dinner; definitely order some lunch or dinner to get your hands on the most amazing bread & butter and then try the Sou Sou burger for lunch or the Mussels for dinner. By far my fav spot in Melbourne.

Approximate cost: $20

We have an Entertainment book and decided to give this a go as there was a buy 1 get one free deal in there.

We ordered marinated olives first and was quite disappointed when they came out cold - this is probably just how they do it, but would have really bought out the flavours more if they had at least warned them up a little.

Entrees ordered was a cheese souffle with scallops - which was lovely, however the scallops were on the cold side within. My entree was the calamari and prawn fritter dish, serves with aioli which was really nice.

For mains we both ordered the rib eye...big mistake. When they came out, they were basically stand-alone meat with a tiny side dish. For $42, this is a bit of a stretch. The worst thing was that when cutting into the meat and upon sampling, it was easy to tell that this was not fresh, and had been frozen. The texture of the rib eye was way off and it had a powdery and dry sort of overtone. As I said, for $42 it was a very disappointing dish and I would have been extremely angry about it if it wasn't for the fact that one of them was comped with the Entertainment book.
This place had a lovely ambiance and the staff were attentive but not in your face. Great place for drinks and entrees. Not sure I would return though because the main dish fell so far from the mark and there are so many restaurants to discover.

Finally decided to give this place a try after hearing about it so often from my friends. Overall it was quite disappointing, servings are small but prices are very expensive. Luckily I had my discount voucher from entertainment book.

This place has a fabulous ambience - I could almost feel like I am in Paris. Food is great, wine list impressive, but the service can be a little inconsistent. It can also be very overcrowded. I try to avoid going there on weekends. Not impressed by their lunch menu either. Nevertheless it still remains one of my favourite restaurants in Melbourne.

Menu is very limited & not much flexibility, food is ok but nothing to rave about. Service is good but they need to do more with their menu, no specials & no dessert on menu. U need to ask dor the desserts!
