4 reviews about Madras House

Madras House has moved from Alfred Cove to Le Souef Drive in Kardinya. It is now located in a small complex together with two other restaurants, one of which was closed for renovations.
We are new to the area and were checking out local restaurants and decided to give Madras House a try. Initial impressions were good with the friendly front of house lady making us welcome.
We had the poppadums for an appetizer and found the dish both refreshing and tasty. We then ordered Murgh tandoor, Thakkali Prawns and Beef Chettinad together with Paratha and Mushroom Pilau Rice. The tandoor dish was somewhat on the bland side but the chicken itself was quite moist. The prawn dish was, in my wife's opinion, the pick of the three though I enjoyed the spicy kick of the beef dish. The pilau rice bore no evidence of mushrooms. At $58 the food represented reasonable if not outstanding value.
I couple of negatives were the sliding door to the single toilet - it was off the runners, and the apparent after effects of what may well have been MSG. We both woke during the night with the tell-tale dry mouth and dull head.
It was a Saturday night and we were the only dine-in customers though there were 2 or 3 takeaway orders. By comparison, the restaurant next door was extremely busy. That in itself says something.

This little Indian restaurant is tucked away in Alfred Cove and even if you don't live that close, it is worth travelling to. The butter chicken is delicious and they have many, many dishes that are gluten free which is great! Just make sure that you book ahead on Friday and Saturday nights as they get very busy.

Approximate cost: $15-20

Here they serve Indian food with lots of spices and colours like is standard for Indian food. We went on a Friday because they have smorgasbord (you can get a-la-carte if you want) and we wanted to try all different meals rather than just one or two. The smorgasbord food was lovely and turnover was high so it didn't look like it had been sitting there for ages

Very intimate Indian restaurant with dark decor. Service was a little below par and slightly unfriendly. The food however was great with a really good Butter Chicken.

Approximate cost: $18
