Hidden away in a small country town maween is a precious gem that offers a wonderful stop over point for those weary international and interstate travelers who are traversing from between Victoria’s magnificent scenic attractions of the Grampians and the Great Ocean Road; or for those seeking a piece of rural respite between Melbourne and Adelaide. Alternatively, it is the ideal destination for Victorians seeking a place to escape into a sense of serenity and solitude.
The accommodation is a very spacious, well-equipped apartment that has been built above a double garage and laundry facility. From this vantage point it captures some magnificent views that appear to be framed pictures on the wall due to the very clever use of a decorative molding around the windows. The surrounding garden is very well maintained and creates a breath-taking image from the top of the stairs where it is visible through a framed window above the stairwell. This same view is provided through the window above the sink. Another cleverly placed oblong window affords a series of enchanting views depending whether you are - standing (views of nearby Mount Rouse), sitting on the bed (views of the passing clouds in the magnificent blue sky with a tree branch framing one corner), lying on the couch at night (the sparkling stars twinkling in the sky).
There are two balconies. One provides a view of nearby Mount Rouse. This same view is also visible when sitting up in the large comfortable bed. A balcony on the other side of the building offers a second option to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine depending on the time of day or which side the breeze is coming from.
There is an accommodation place in England- Camelot Castle, Tintagel, Cornwell that prides itself in offering a collection of mysteries that have guest pondering for days. Similarly, maween has a mystery within that will incite your curiosity and stimulate your mind for hours maybe even days.
On the practical side come prepared to dine in. At one of the larger towns along the way buy something that can be heated in the oven or microwave or salad ingredients to put together. With so many pre-prepared options available it is easy to have a delicious meal and in this setting you will be happy to dine in. We were travelling from Lake Bolac, 49 minutes away, so we purchased very nice home made pies and a sausage roll from Country Kitchen Wok & Grill Café (closes at 2.30pm) and added a thick cup of soup. Having had a hearty lunch, we were more than satisfied but if you preferred to dine at a restaurant travel 24mins to Dunkeld where fine dining is available for Lunch from Thursday to Sunday and Dinner from Wednesday to Sunday. I notice a local Penshurst resident was selling fresh eggs on his nature-strip which could easily be made into a tasty omelette. Breakfast provisions are available upon request.

Approximate cost: $125
