I don’t recommend this clinic. My partner and I did an IVF cycle in 2021. Appointments with the fertility specialist were short and rushed. Nothing was explained properly and there was no one to ask medical based questions. Mistakes were made with my treatment and it’s obvious they’re dealing with a huge number of patients and have trouble keeping track of all the details (worrying for an IVF clinic). We had a good outcome in the end but the experience was much more stressful than it should have been. Felt like a production line.

Froze 11 of my eggs at age 36 with a hefty 12k fee. They were considered the most healthy ones from 16 which were collected.
5 years later, thawed out 8 (and paid another 3.5k), only 6 survived the thawing process.
Of the 6, only 3 became embryo's.
Of the 3, none developed.
I understand there are risks but they test the whole way through. Im not sure how 8 premium eggs did not produce 1 developing embryo.
I'm quite angry and disappointed with East Melb IVF clinic.

Been with Melb IVF for nearly 2 yrs. Doctor (Kate) and nurses great.
East Melb clinic - awful!
Average age of PLAs and reception staff is about mid 20s.
Reception staff: We have been given wrong information on numerous occasions by the reception staff. For example, we are told that we need to see a nurse first. After waiting to see a nurse, the first thing the nurse says is that we didn’t need to see them. Or we are told that we need to see a PLA first. Following a 25 min wait to see a PLA, we are told that we could have telephoned at a more convenient time. We positively hate going to that reception area. All the chairs arranged in a circle so you can avoid looking at other people whilst breakfast tv blares in the background.

E.g.s:
Dr: you need to see a counsellor before we can start a cycle
US: we were told next available appt in 2 months. Cycle due to start next week.
Dr: Ask if you can see someone at another site
US: we didn't know there were other sites (Box Hill, RWH, Werribee etc)

PLA: I can offer you next week in Werribee
US: We live east side... anything closer?
PLA: Or would you prefer tomorrow at Women's Hosp?
US: Of course we would? (Do you have any common sense???)

Counsellor: I need to ask you what you'd like to do in case one of you dies...
US: ?*$#*(#( where did that question come from??
Counsellor: So, how are you feeling?
US: We feel how one would feel just after making weighty decisions out of the blue about what do with our left over eggs and sperm after one of us dies.

and on it goes.
We are going to ask our Dr (we like her so much) if there is anyway we can minimise our contact with the East Melb clinic.

Would agree with the pre service was great, but after 2 unsuccessful attempts I would expect a follow up from the doctor, both times not even a call from the doctor( different doctor to yours) this was very disappointing, it felt like it was just about the money

After having difficulties conceiving our 2nd child we chose Melbourne IVF to assist us & were very pleased with all aspects of the service. The offices & reception areas are very modern & professional. Our Dr (Jim Tsaltas) was excellent in explaining the process, encouraging us & advising us along the way. The mandatory counselling session is a worthwhile experience as it does throw up some potential issues & outcomes for discussion which may not have been thought about before (eg. what to do with any 'leftover' embryos or eggs etc) - we found this valuable. One of the best ideas they have is to assign you to a 'group' (eg. red) as you go through the process. This aligns you to the 'red group' of nurses so you become familiar & build relationships along the way rather than dealing with a different person each time. We were lucky enough to have success within a relatively short timeframe so were obviously thrilled with the outcome. The process is fairly expensive but there are rebates etc which make it manageable. The joy of getting the baby you are craving will far outweigh any concerns with expenses. We highly recommend Melbourne IVF.

If you're considering IVF our experience with Melbourne IVF has been excellent. they have been 100% accommodating to our need, very compassionate and provide very personal service. We just got the results from our last cycle to find out we're pregnant. about half an hour after recieving the call from the lab we received a call from our nurse (we've been dealing with the same nurse throughout the process) simply to tell us that she had been hoping to be the one who gave us the good news but as we had already been told she thought she'd ring to say congratulations. It's that personal touch that impressed me.

The only negative of the experience was the councellor (you're required to meet with one of thier concellors before you start your cycle). The councellor we met with had a bit of a screw loose. She was clearly a pro-lifer with an adjender, she was was not at all objective (as a councellor should be) and was quite unprofessional. Just remember the best medican advice through this experience will come from the doctor and, to a lesser extent, your nurse, your concellor shouldn't be talking about medical issues and if they do check anything they say with the doctor. But to spite this, I was so impressed with everything else I still give Melbourne IVF 5 out of 5.

Get a referal from your GP (if you get a referal from your obstit. it's only good for 3 monts, your GP can give you an indefinat referal), when you go to Melbourne IVF we can recomend a doctor by the name of doctor Geoffrey Clark.

Make sure youre registered for the medicare safety net to maximise your rebate

Approximate cost: $approx $2500 out of pocket (this will be more if you haven't reached the medicare safetly net)

Yes that's right. The counselling is actually not supporting at all.I felt it's a waste of time as you actually dont get the counselling that you want.I and my husband felt more depressed out of the counselling session. I would prefer they have the counsellor as well as the nurse or the doctor for that session so whatever the counsellor cannot answer the nurse / doctor can answer it. The counsellor was more of speak to him and speak to her and that she doesnt know anything. Well hello, she too has to know things because she is suppose to comfort me for the process that i have chosen.
Conclusion - Don't expect any support rather expect Q&A session.
