MIFSA is a community organisation which provides a wide range of support, information and services to people who have a mental illness and their family.

The Personal Helpers and Mentors Program provides a personal helper/mentor to people with mental illness. There is no cost involved. The mentors are fantastic - absolutely wonderful, caring, friendly, supportive individuals. They are really great.

However, I feel the same cannot be said for the managers of the PHAMS program. Over the last few years there has been a change in the management and structure of this program. Rather than focusing on the support to the clients, it is all about "objectives" and "goals". Its all about meeting targets and objectives to these managers. They are inflexible and unapproachable. This approach ignores the valuable support the mentors provide people. Once you meet a level of "objective", you "exit" the program (not by choice). It is a real shame.

I still recommend MIFSA strongly to anyone who needs extra support. They provide a wide range of services and the mentors and general staff are fantastic. Just a shame about the attitude of the management!
