This is fusion thai.
Think modern, contemporary, hipster/trendy version of thai food. It is very easy on the palate.
I would definitely recommend giving it a go, especially if you are in the area given that they offer a point of difference to the other sandwich/sandwich, coffee shops, cafes, pubs etc in the area.
My personal recommendation on menu item, would be the hoy tod ($15.50). This is a mussel omelette fried till crisp, with fantastic flavours.
This place is fantastic, ESPECIALLY when it comes to ALLERGIES> they are always so accommodating and gracious. The service is friendly and the portions are hearty and healthy.
Approximate cost: $20
I was pretty unimpressed with Middle Fish I must say. The food was ok but quite underwhelming for Thai - the entrees looked and tasted supermarket frozen and the food was quite bland. The service was all over the place. We all got served at different times so that was awkward and the meals arrived without cutlery. The decor is funky and it's popular with students. Look I wanted to love the place on looks alone but it's food court standard cuisine at a much higher price.
A better than average thai cafe.
Warehouse fitout.
The menu is creative and food is well executed, in the 'modern thai' style.
Approximate cost: $14
