The menu reads alright. Nothing different to your average suburban japanese mid-range restaurant.
The management/owners are chinese.
The surrounds are reasonably clean and hospitable.
Everything is fine.
Until the food arrives.
It is presented with care. However, this is not enough to mask fish that isn't a reasonable grade and freshness. Freshness and grade is very obvious when it comes to serving sushi and sashimi. Given that we were not paying $$$, i was not expecting anything outstandingly luxurious. However, I do expect sashimi/sushi grade fish.
The fish that we got was as follows:
Salmon - this was ok. the cuts were a bit sinewy in some parts but I find that is often the case in non-authentic mid-range japanese restaurants, due to the cuts procured and kitchen talent
Tuna - major issues here. I suspect that they are procuring Carbon Monoxide treated tuna. The tuna was a suspiciously deep red colour. CO treating causes tuna to go deep red and stay that way, which is convenient given that most consumers look out for this. The tuna on my plate was much much too deep red, and it didn't really smell/taste so very fresh (and I doubt it was bluefin tuna which is the reddest of tuna varieties).

I tried the Chicken Udon noodle soup and the gyoza (pan fried dumplings). The Chicken udon was absolutely amazing! It had real pieces of roast chicken sitting in a strongly-flavoured miso broth with udon noodles. Theflavour was unique. The meat-filled gyoza was also very tasty. It had different textures rather than being very finely minced. It came with a dipping sauce which was very tangy but suited the dish.

Ordered Oyaka Don & Miso. It was lovely. The sashimi looked great too. Situated at a nice location at the end of Greville St.
