At My Calm we focus on both short-term counselling and longer-term psychodynamic psychotherapy. However, other approaches are available to suit the needs of the client.
Most people are familiar with the idea of counselling – a limited series of therapy sessions through which the therapist helps you understand your mental, emotional, spiritual, physical, and relationship challenges and how to manage them.
Psychodynamic psychotherapy is a longer-term method by which you and I will deeply examine current and past events and relationships in the your life, with the aim of developing insights to the problems you face today.
Every individual responds differently to adverse events, and this can be attributed to prior lived experiences. No matter what anyone may say, the past does matter. Unresolved emotional issues remain with us, making us vulnerable to repeat conflicts we never got around to working out. Often, the problems we face aren’t available to our conscious mind. The experiences that effect our lives most negatively are those that have become ‘unspeakable’. Once words are attributed to emotions and experiences they can be expressed, examined, and shared.
With psychodynamic psychotherapy your therapist will walk with you through the process of recalling, attributing words to, and addressing the pain that is impacting you negatively today. It takes courage and emotional effort, but strength and healing are the rewards.
We'd love to help you, so book a session with us today!
