Having heard so much about Nando's famous Portuguese flame-grilled chicken, marinated for 24-hours and cooked in Nando's Peri-Peri sauce, my friend and I thought we'd check it out for ourselves. It was a cold, rainy night and so hardly anyone else was in there. I have seen it quite crowded at times so seems to be popular. Can't fault the service, they were prompt with our order - no more than ten minutes.

There's a lot of atmosphere - Portuguese decorations and plenty of seating. There are footpath tables for the nicer weather too. Lots of little quirks - instead of table numbers you are given a large wooden rooster - don't know if every table is a different animal or the rooster had a number on it somewhere.

I ordered a chicken pita wrap with a bowl of chips on the side - serving was quite small. There is a choice of spice level from mild to very hot and I went with the mild, which was quite okay. The chicken itself was fine but nothing special. My friend who's vegetarian got a similar thing with a vegetarian pattie, but we found out later it had egg in it, which she doesn't normally have either.

For the two of us at around $30 we found this a bit much for what we got.

I might be back again to try something else, but it won't be in a hurry.

Open Monday - Sunday from 11.00 am to 10.00 pm.

Approximate cost: $12
