Newcastle Jockey Club

Recently our family chose to have my mums 60th birthday here. We had two tables reserved in the upstairs area where there is a good view through the windows of the race track and there is a small bar area in this function room also, which was handy. It was great being able to stay out of the wind and the cold while also getting a great view of the races and not having to venture far for a drink, although I was disappointed to find they had no coffee machine upstairs, I had to walk a fair way to another area downstairs just to get a cappuccino. We had there catering for the event, we got sandwich, wraps and finger food platters, which all tasted quite fresh with some nice gourmet fillings in the wraps. The food was brought out in a timely manner after most of the guests arrived, so we were pleased with that. Having a function here was a little bit pricey though, to reserve a table regardless of weather food is being purchased still comes with a charge per head on the table and there is also an entry fee per person to that area on top of that. I was also a little disappointed that they wouldn't allow a birthday cake to be brought in for mum and they also didn't appear to sell cakes themselves from what I could tell, so we had to have one later. Mum enjoyed herself though and we all had a good day.
