10 reviews about Norita Cafe & Board Games

verified email - 14 Jul 2013

This is a great place to come with friends to play a variety of board games over a coffee or cake. The food is pretty good, but the main attraction is the board games you can hire for a quick break in the city. Drinks are pretty good too and sometimes they draw cute faces in the froth. Overall, fun place to come with something different to offer.

My friends and I come here on a regular basis to play Dungeons & Dragons - please note that Norita is not wheelchair friendly, as there is only stair access to get to them on Level 2.

While I don't know how busy they get later in the week and on weekends, on weeknights it's pretty quiet, so you won't have to compete over other conversations. While their food selection is pretty small, the price you pay for it is decent enough - the bulgogi is tasty, though it can also be a little wetter than what you're used to. The udong noodle soup can be hit and miss, but it's always edible. There has been a couple of times when my boyfriend has gone to order a lemon lime & bitters drink but has been told it's unavailable.

The staff that work here are friendly and polite, and go out of your way to make you feel comfortable. So even when you're told an item is unavailable, it's always done in a way that makes you feel better about the disappointment. The buzzer system they use for customers to grab their attention is really nice too.

We've never hired any board games at our visits here, but from what I can tell, some of the games seem to be in really poor condition from over use, but otherwise it looks like a nice enough selection. The same can be said for the cafe itself - it's nice enough for what you pay overall, but it's a little sad to see that unused items remain in sight.

Overall, if you like the idea of going out, having a casual meal and playing a wide variety of board games, then Norita is perfect for you. Otherwise, there are better places you could go and pay the same price for a larger selection of the same quality, if not better, food.

When I called up to book a table for two at 7pm, the gentleman who answered the phone wasn't all that great at taking bookings but they weren'teally busy so it didn't really matter if we made one or not. You enter via a staircase so it's easy to miss and it's a bit of an effort climbing the stairs but it's well worth it. Upon arrival we weren't greeted for about a minute or so. But we were politely seated by the window by a friendly waitress and for the rest of the night were waited on by 3 people. How is that for service! Each table has a buzzer to prompt staff who immediately pop up at the table ready for you. There's not a lot of variety meal-wise but there is plenty of desserts and drinks so I would suggest going for lunch or in between meals. The funnest part is the games! You can hire boardgames before, during and after your meals and you are welcome to stay for as long as you like! I played Guess Who, Jenga and Samurai. Games vary from $1-$3 depending on the game and you can play for 1-3 hours, although the staff are pretty casual so as long as it isn't busy I'm sure they won't mind overtime. It's a very cute little chillout zone and I would heavily recommend it to be tried.

For a board game cafe they have a pretty nice setup. Comfortable and relaxed they have a good range of fun games for groups to play. The prices are a bit steep for food but the quality is ok. Friendly staff and good atmosphere!

Nice, Quiet, Relaxing. Good place to chill. They have internet too if you really need it. Drinks are pretty nice, board games have a large variety, charged per hour usually, different pricing with different games and drink, cool place!

We were there on Australia Day with a few friends and my friend ordered a takoyaki dish (octopus balls)...she was about half way into her dish when she realised that the insides were still cold and hard-possibly not fully well cooked. Now usually, a restaurant will be not too pleased if you hand back an unsatifactory dish after having eaten half or more than half of it, but Norita were more than happy to recook a new full dish for my friend and she was quite pleased about it afterwards.

Great variety of games available. A great place to just chill with friends.
Too bad they've introduced a minimum spending on beverages and food per person. But thats reasonable.
The no split billing policy is a killer for group met ups.

Approximate cost: $10+
