Avoid northside skip bins: a lesson in disrespect, lies, and intimidation

Avoid Northside Skip Bins: Poor Service, Intimidation, and Lack of Respect
I deeply regret hiring Northside Skip Bins without thoroughly researching their reviews. My experience with this company was marred by unprofessionalism, dismissive treatment, and an unsettling display of power by their customer service. Here’s why I strongly recommend avoiding this business:
Unmet Promises and Poor Communication (October 28, 2024)
On October 28, I was expecting the delivery of a 10-cubic-meter skip bin that I had booked and paid for. The bin did not arrive at the scheduled time, despite contractors being on-site ready to begin work. Concerned, I contacted the company to inquire about the delay.
The person I spoke with informed me that the 10-cubic-meter bin was unavailable and claimed that it was not suitable for soil and sand, despite these materials being disclosed at the time of booking. Instead, they offered a smaller 9-cubic-meter bin. This explanation was confusing and appeared to be a fabricated excuse to cover logistical issues.
When I asked for clarification, the representative's tone became dismissive and condescending. The conversation escalated when they stated, “If you continue speaking this way, I’ll cancel your order entirely, and you won’t receive the 9-cubic-meter bin either.” This came across as an attempt to intimidate and exert power rather than resolve the issue. Ultimately, the representative hung up on me, leaving me frustrated and disrespected.
Unreasonable Payment Demands and Further Intimidation (November 1, 2024)
A few days later, I contacted the company via email to request an extension for the skip bin rental by one week, until November 11. I proposed paying through PayPal, the same method I had used for my initial payment. To avoid further unpleasant interactions, I requested that all communication take place via email.
Despite this, I received a call from the same representative, who completely disregarded my request for email correspondence. They refused to accept payment via PayPal and insisted that payment could only be made via credit card over the phone or cash at their office. Neither option was feasible for me due to personal circumstances.
When I reiterated my preference for PayPal, the representative responded with, “If you don’t pay the way we require, the bin will be collected on Monday, November 4.” This statement felt like a clear threat, delivered in an arrogant tone. Given that my paving project was underway and the bin was essential for disposing of leftover materials, this added unnecessary stress to an already frustrating situation.
Escalating the Matter and the Final Outcome
Feeling unheard and disrespected, I contacted Consumer Protection WA for advice. They recommended documenting the issue and sending a formal email to the company. Following this advice, I wrote an email clearly stating my willingness to pay via PayPal and my intention to escalate the matter if my request was not addressed.
Shortly after sending the email, I received an SMS from the company stating that the bin collection would be delayed by a week due to operational issues. While this resolved the immediate concern, it raised further questions about their professionalism and why they couldn’t accommodate my request earlier.
On November 11, the bin was finally collected, marking the end of my ordeal. However, the behavior of the representative throughout this process left a lasting negative impression. Their dismissive attitude, use of intimidation tactics, and refusal to engage in professional conflict resolution reflect poorly on the company as a whole.
Why You Should Avoid Northside Skip Bins
Northside Skip Bins' customer service lacks professionalism and respect. The representative I dealt with prioritized asserting power over providing solutions, causing unnecessary stress and frustration.
If you’re considering hiring this company, I urge you to reconsider. There are many other businesses that value their clients and offer a higher standard of service. This experience has been a lesson for me—always check reviews before hiring any company.
