I used to be a regular here at the studio on their social dancing nights, but I found that it got very repetitive. I took the "advanced" social classes and I found that I just wasn't learning anything new. There wasn't really a focus on technique that I've had at other studios, although there is a possibility of signing up for medal classes. This wasn't something I could regularly commit to, nor am I interested in, so I found that my interest in attending waned.

I love dancing, and I think if you wanted a casual night out and to dance a few different dances socially, this would be a good place. If you want to learn technique, or dance with a less eclectic skill group (it ranges from very beginner to very advanced which can play havoc if you yourself are still learning), dance elsewhere.

The people here are very lovely and it's obvious that they are passionate about dance, but there needs to be some changes made before I'll consider adding them back into my regular dance attendances.

I was dancing here for about a year and generally had an enjoyable night, but compared with dance studios I've attended elsewhere, Orchards doesn't have quite what I'm looking for. I don't consider myself an "advanced" dancer (only about 2-3 years ballroom/salsa experience), and yet I did the advanced social classes every time I went and really didn't learn much more than a new set of steps each week. Sometimes this was still helpful, but I would have liked to see more technique taught without having to commit to an ongoing series of medal classes which I'm not particularly interested in. I love dancing and I enjoy improving, but I have no desire to complete an exam or start competing. So it was frustrating that even doing the advanced classes I rarely felt like I was extending myself. The social on a Monday and Friday is also interspersed with the teaching aspects, which means you can't just skip the class but then come later for an evening of social dancing (which is what my previous studio in Melbourne offered, and quite successfully). However, the people I met here were always lovely, and I do still think about going back sometimes. But until there's a really good ballroom school in Brisbane I'm currently getting my dancing fun in other styles and locations.

Been going here for a few months now. Social nights are great fun, well structured, easy to follow and at a convenient time. And totally commitment free. No courses or lessons to sign up for, just show up when you can make it. There are advanced nights for those who are better dancers and plenty of great instructors willing and able to teach anything to anyone at any level. Some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. I can't imagine dancing anywhere else and loving it this much.

Approximate cost: $17
