Thoroughly enjoyed a degustation here with my husband.
We loved getting walked through the sake, with great explanations on which would match which meal.
Service was attentive.
Took a stab in the dark and randomly came across this restaurant on smith st.
Compliments to the chef for his work of art. The Sake recommended by Michael, complimented the Flavour of the well balanced dishes that were served. Ambience was amazing, service was 10/10
pabu actually means pub in japanese.
Whilst it does carry a great range of beverages and suitable matching foods, Pabu does not really feel like a pub at all. More like a slick, modern, casual eatery.
Good japanese restaurant that serves good and generous dishes. I particularly liked how the menu is quite broad, and offers a lot of choice outside of the classic sushi, nigiri, sashimi and don/noodle offerings.
examples of food you might be able to order:
Pabu Sumiyaki (set of 5 large skewers) $16.50
Watari Kani Karaage (soft shell crab with salad) $11
Kani Sliders (soft shell crab, 2 sliders) $13
Good value!
We let the chef decide the food and it was simply delicious. Every plate came out artistically designed and full of flavour. I especially like the shot glasses with oysters. Considering the amount of food (over 10 serves), the price was very reasonable. Will definitely find time to return to Pabu in the future.
Approximate cost: $50
