I don't know what people expect when they go to theatres. Of course things are going to be overpriced, that's parrot the experience. I have been to one concert here as part of the audience, but have performed here on three occasions. The staff are so beautifully friendly and act as if they love their job. It's got a great atmosphere and is at a terrific location.

Great old theatre here. Not full at the recent concert (Skoro) but friendly staff and the venue is wonderful. The prices are steep for drinks, chips and chocolates though so be wary as you can't bring your own as the staff get you to throw it out before entering if they notice.

St. Kilda's Palais Theatre is a beautiful, historic venue, not too far from Melbourne's CBD. A great variety of artists of all genres play at the venue, and usually, tickets are of a reasonable cost.

In terms of concert going, shows are up close and personal. Even the seats at the back of the top level provide an intimate experience. Generally shows run to advertised times (give or take 15 minutes), and are well worth the money spent. My only complaint would be that security can sometimes be a little bit too strict in their job, for example asking concert-goers to take a seat just seconds after the band performing has insisted the audience feel free to stand up and dance.

When it comes to getting there, the venue is easily accessible by public transport, with trams running from the CBD and stopping just metres from the venue's entrance. There are plenty of car parking spaces surrounding the venue, however it should be noted that it can be difficult to find a spot, particularly on Summer nights or during school holidays, with Luna Park and St. Kilda beach in close proximity. Drop off and pick up may be an easier option, especially during these times.

If you are looking for food or drinks, the venue itself does not have much to offer. You are not allowed to bring your own food and drinks inside, so if you can't go the length of the show without a bottle of water or a snack, be prepared to pay double what you would elsewhere at the snack bars. They offer lollies and chocolates, chips, etc. as well as a range of cold and hot drinks. There is also a bar upstairs, but it should be noted alcohol cannot be taken onto the downstairs level. With this said, there are a large range of restaurants, bars, and fast food places in the surrounding area for those looking to grab a meal or a drink before or after the show.

Overall, the staff are friendly for the most part, the venue is beautiful, and the location is convenient.

Approximate cost: $100-$150

I've been to some concerts here and have had alot of fun here.Great location.I get there early and meet up with friends to see if we can meet the artists before their show and we have done most of the time.Very intimate venue.
I have really loved the concerts I have been to here.
I find it strange that you can buy alcohol downstairs only upstairs. The range of snacks they have here is not that great they don't have hot food or anything that could consist of a meal, but there are plenty of nice restaurants, cafes, fast food places nearby.
The beach is quite close to here too.

This is the most sensational theatre in Australia. It is beautiful and they often have a great gig line-up. What makes this place extra special is the staff, they are always willing to go out of their way and have done so on occasion when i have needed their assistance as i am in a wheelchair. I can not recommend this place enough. I love it there!!!!
